one child Selden T. Jr. Born July 15, 1888, Lucinda
Henry Comfort, born Feb.10, 1827, died Dec. 6, 1880. R O Comfort is a farmer
at South Creek, Bradford Co Pa. He served in t he late
war Co. G, 174 Vol. for nine months and discharged in 1863. Lydia was born
Dec. 15, 1831, and married Henry Brewer on Aug. 23, 1855. mercy was born
Dec. 15, 1831, and married Henry brewer on aug. 23, 1855. Mercy was born
March 20, 1884. she married George Quick, Nov. 5, 1856. Jacob died Oct.
12, 1837. Myrilla died Sept. 21, 1840. Harriet born Nov. 10, 1841, married
George Burnham, Jan 8, 1862. Oliver T was born July 13, 1844 and married
Caroline J. daughter of Elliott and Caroline L Knapp Suffern, Nov.
14, 1866. his two children are STewart S born Feb. 22, 1871, and Herbert
T born. 1880., O F Comfort resides on the old homestead. Hannah died April
16, 1847.
Gilbert, C Coleman son of Jeremiah and Hannah Coleman, was born in Ashland on March 14, 1817 and on dec. 16, 1840 he married Elizabeth, daughter of Daniel and Sarah Crane Hildereth. there children were Millicent B., Charles E., Sarah B.,Hannah M.,Judd S., Harriet E., Julia A., and Denton. Mr. Coleman resides on the homestead of Charles E Coleman is also a resident on the homestead farm of his father. He served in co. K. Pa. Volunteers, and was honorably discharged. He was wounded at The battle of Chancellorville, in which engagement William N. Coleman was killed.
Coleman, Jeremiah son of Jeremiah,
a Revolutionary soldier and a native of Orange
county. was born Mar. 6, 1777 and came to Ashland,
soon after his marriage in 1803
He died Dec. 10, 1850 in Southport at
the age of seventy five years. he was a minute man in the war of 1812.
Mr. Coleman married hannah daughter of Richard and Hannah comfort, who
was born on aug. 29, 1782. and his children are Myrilla, Millicent,
Charlotte, Eliza, Samuel H. Maria, Oliver, Gilbert D.,William N [killed
in the late war] and Richard B. the latter was born June 3, 1823 in Ashland.
and in 1847 married Harriet daughter of William and Cynthia Easton who
was born Sept. 3, 1828. in Orange Co NY. Their children were
Willie, Joe, Jane , Minda, Owen, and Merritt. Jane Coleman married Frank,
son of John Burnam and they have two children, Mark and hattie. They are
residents of Ashland. Richard B Coleman resides in Wellsburgh, NY
John Eastoman, grandfather of Harriet Coleman, served in the
Revolution.
Coleman, Maria daughter of Jeremiah and Hannah [ Comfort] Coleman was born in Ashland, NY. May 15, 1825. and married, in 1849 Robert F Wilcox, son of Thomas and Elizabeth Wilcox, who died June 21, 1867, aged 54 yrs. Their children were Eugene born May 13,1853; Cliet, born Sept. 3, 1857; and Maria born Nov. 25, 1864. Mrs. Wilcox married Annie M. Phillips, March 25, 1876 of Waterman, Ill and their children are Florence E, albert, Robert F., Goldie B., Edwin and Josephine. He is a machinist and a resident of Huron, Dak. Chet Wilcox married Libbie Crane, by who he has two children, Bessie M, and Ida R. They are residents of Ridgeburgh, Pa. marie Wilcox married James H Palmer and has one daughter, Nina F. They are residents of Corning NY.
Comfort, Jacob a native of Orange Co NY came to Chemung Co with his father Richard in 18074.. Richard Comfort died March 6,1821, in the 79th yr. of age.. Jacob Comfort married Lydia Owens, by whom he had four children :robert , Oliver, Benjamin, and Mercy. He died Sept. 21,1812, aged 37. Oliver comfort born in Orange Co Feb. 13, 1803, married Myrtilla dau. of Jeremiah and hannah Coleman in May 1826. She died June 18, 1879 age 76. Their children were Wm. R., Robert, E., Lydia, Mercy,Jacob, Myrtill, Harriet, Oliver T. and Hannah.Myrilla Coleman Comfort was born Aug. 27, 1804. and died May 29, 1890, aged 85. nine months and two days. william R. born March 11, 1827 and married twice, his first wife being Gloranah dau. of Jacob Elliott, who died june 25, 1855, aged 20. He married second Lucinda, daughter of Wm. and Catherine Henry, Oct. 8, 1856, their two children being Myrtilla L an Selden T. Myrilla was born Oct. 14, 1857, an d married George W Merrian , Nov. 12, 1879. Seldend T. born Sept 10, 1860 married Mary J. Elliott, Nov. 16, 1881 and died Aug. 1888; they had Henry one of his sons and father of Jonas S. was born in Orange County Feb. 16, 1821. In January, 1844, he married Susan R. Sayre, of Horseheads and six children were born to them, namely: Jonas; Julia E., who married REv. Judson Titsworth of Milwaukee, Wis.; Catherine S. who married Dr. R.D. Eastman. of Berkshire, NY.; Selah, who married Emma Bennett who died in 1889; William who married Estelle Hitchcock; and. Lewis S, who married Louisa Averill, of Elmira. Hon. Jonas S. VanDuzer born at Horseheads Dec 2, 1846 fitted for college at Alfred University He attended Amherst College; class of 1870 but left in 1807 to accept a position in the wholesale drug store in NY city. He married, March 2 1869 Jamanda Rogers of Plainfield N J., and they have one adopted daughter.Julia. In 1872 he was elected school Master, which position he held for three years. and 1883 he was elected member of Assembly and was re-elected in 1884. Mr. VanDuzer was a republican and received appointment of postmaster in Sept. 1889. He resides in this village.
Hammond, Lebens, born in Ct. served in the battle of Wyoming. He settled while young in Ashland and cleared what is now known as the Hammond farm, where he died. aged 72 in 1824. He married Lucy daughter of Col. Samuel Tubbs, and their children were hannah and Polly. Hannah Hammond married James Matthews and their children are Vincent, William and L. hammond. The latter was born in Ashland Dec. 22, 1816, and married Harriet daughter of Solomon L. and Julia Seeley Smith. Their children, Fletcher, Timothy S, Guy L, Mary, Emma, Julia, and Harriet. He is a farmer on the homestead in Ashland. Mary Hammond is living in the same town aged 81.
Hoke, Vantyle J. son of Jonas Hoke, and born Herkimer Co NY and is resident in Fergusonvile, Delaware, Co NY. He is shoemaker by trade. He married Isabelle Dexell and his children are A Rossell, , Mary, and Fred L, Fred L. Hoke born in Delaware Co. NY. June 19, 1867, married Stella Clark of North Chemung, daughter of C A and Abigail L Harrington Clark, who was born Apr. 4, 1866. Mr. Hoke is a general merchant at Lawman's NY. He is postmaster, and justice of the peace.
Jenkins, Stephen a native of Ct. came to a place near Wilkesbarre, Pa. where he died in 1775. His children were Jabez, Thomas, Benjamin, David, Hugh, Samuel, Amy, Lydia, Mary, Jonathan and Bethia. Samuel Jenkins born in Pa. came to Elmira with Lebens L, at the age of 20. he died in 1846, aged 68 yrs. He married Cynthia daughter of Robert Tubbs and his children are george, Julia, Robert, Wilkes, Mary, Lucy, James, Hugh, Samuel, Benjamin, charles, Clara and Harris. the latter born in Elmira on apr. 13, 1828, married March 19, 1870, Elizabeth Strong, who was born July 1, 1841, daughter of James and Susan spaulding Strong of Ashland. Their children are Asa B, Ira C, Susan S, roy D, Ray T and Dana H. Mr. Jenkins has been a farmer in Ashland for 22 yrs. Hugh Jenkins son of Stephen was killed in the war of 1812.
Kelsey, Horace son or Hiram, was born in Elmira NY, in 1819 and die at Wellsburg, NY Dec. 28, 1877, age 59. march 29, 1842 he married martha N Baldwin who's was born Feb. 11, 1829, at Bentley Creek, Bradford Co .Pa. a daughter of Silas and Zamanda Stull Baldwin. Mr and Mrs. kelsey's children were Gertrude, born July 18, 1854. married Malcome E Lawrence of Elmira; Clayton born Aug. 16, 1867; Candice born Aug. 18, 1858, died 1878, aged nearly 19; and Baldwin born. Apr. 19, 1864, married Oct. 27, 1891, Ida Nelson, of Yonkers, NY. Horace Kelsey was proprietor of the Wellsburg Exchange Hotel at Wellsburg NY for 12 yrs. That hotel was built by Horace Wells in 1855. Mr. Kelseys widow Martha A survives and resides at Wellsburg. She retains the ownership of the hotel property.
Kidder, Samuel S was born in Mass. and came to Yates Co NY in early childhood. He is a farmer by occupation and died in Torry Yates, co. NY at the age of 85. He married Elizabeth Belle and their children were David D, Milan and Marian. David D Kidder, born in Yates Co near Penn Yan, married Elisabeth, daughter of Wm. Sherling, and his children were Bessie I or T., Annie L., William, Helen, and Samuel E. The latter was born in Yates Co. Aug. 10, 1863, and Nov. 23, 1890 he married Ella N Dailey of Penn Yan. NY. daughter of Joseph Dailey. Mr. Kidder served seven years in the N G S NY, F Separate Company, of Penn Yan. He came to Wellsburg in 1887, and is the proprietor of the only drug and stationary store in that village. He is a member of order of Knights of Pythias and a member of the Pharmaceutical Association of NY state.
Lain, william was a native of Orange Co NY where he died age about 80 yrs. His children were William Jr., James, John, David, Phebe, Sally, and frances. Mr. Lain born on Long ISland in 1743, died in Minisink NY in 1811. He married Keziah M, daughter of Increase and Anna Mathe, who was born also in Minisink in 1749 and died in 1814. Their children were Phebe, born in 1770; Jonathan born in 1771; Bethiah born in 1776; Keziah born in 1778; William Jr. born in 1780; John born in 1782; James born in 1783; Sarah born in 1786; Moses born in 1788; and David born in 1791. William Lain Jr. a native of Minisink, Orange CO was born May 3,1780, where he died Dec. 17, 1833. He married Deborah Alger who died Oct. 8, 1848, age 66. His children were Deborah, born June 14, 1802 Frances M, born Nov 9, 1803, Reuben born Sept. 13, 1805; William A born april 20, 1807; Cyrus born march 2, 1809; Keziah born Sept. 13, 1810; Sally born Aug. 10, 1812; Lawrence born Apr. 3, 1814; Moses born Mar. 13,1816; and Isaac born Dec. 18, 1820. Lawrence Lain came to Ashland on foot from Orange Co in 1830. He cleared a farm and here he has lived for 54 yrs. Nov. 7, 1835 he married Hannah daughter of Aram and Betsey Crane Brown, who died April 16, 1883, aged 65. Their children are George W born June 20, 1836; Clarissa born Dec. 1, 1839; Robert C born June 27, 1843; Aram B born June 9, 1848; Horton B born Dec. 14, 1853; Sidney P born Oct. 26, 1858; and Tim E. born Apr. 7, 1860. Clarrisa Lain married Jan. 22, 1863, lyman M Burke, wo was born Dec. 16, 1838. A son of William and Mary Burke. Their children were Jessie M. born aug. 24, 1864; Jennie born Sept. 10, 1866; Hannah E born July 12, 1868; Mary a born Apr. 16, 1871; Horace G. born March 24, 1872; Lillie a born Sept. 13, 1874; Bertha P born March 1, 1877; Martha A. born aug. 23, 1879; and Cyrus L born May 29, 1882. Lyman M Burke died March 9, 1889.
Lockwood, Edmund, born Watertown Litchfield Co Ct. Nov. 24, 1769, married first Nancy Judson, by whom he had two children, Caroline and Charles. He married second, Anna Russel, march 3, 1816, who was born March. 8, 1793. she was the daughter of Isaac and Sally Gore Cash and widow of Dr. Russel. Their children were; Edmund, born Nov 12, 1816; Abigail C born Sept. 14.,1818; Richard C born Sept. 19, 1820; Samuel S born Feb. 22, 1823; Mary Ann born Nov 7, 1825; and Phebe M born March 2, 1830. Richard C Lockwood a native of Ulster, Bradford Co Pa. came to Wellsburg in 1841 and entered into the mercantile partnership with Guy Tracy continuing until 1854, when they were burned out. He has since been in farming in connection with the lumber and coal trade, and also carries on a planing mill. He was first supervisor of the town of Ashland, which office he filled nine years. having also been post master several years. 1855 he married Susan Fishler born Jan. 21, 1821, a daughter of George and Joahanna VanScoder fisher, and their children were; Utilla M. born June 6, 1856; Roe born Aug. 4, 1857; died April 3, 1862; and Edmund C. born april 3, 1864; Mrs. Lockwood is living an is 70 yrs of age. Mr. Lockwood died on Wed. Sept. 2, 1891.
Losey, Rutherford M., son of Amos and Julia A. Losey was born in Manlius Onadoga Co NY, Aug. 29, 1845, and married Anna S daughter of David and Cordelia Schultz Decker, of Elmira and his children are, Cordelia S., ruth D, and Amos D. He owns and conducts the Wellsburg tannery at Wellsburg, NY. which was built in May, 1860, by David Decker. The plant has the capacity of tanning 28,000 sides of leather yearly.
Lowman, Jacob a native of Pennsylvania
and of German origin came to Chemung
among the early settlers and purchased 500 acres
which he cleared. He died in 1840. aged 71. His wife was Huldah Bosworth,
and they had five children; George, Laurinda, Esther, Cynthia, and Jacob.
The latter retained the homestead farm and at the time of his death in
1891 and 4,000 acres of land. George Lowman born at Chemung in 1795, died
in Sept. 1886. age 91 yrs. He married Lillia Harrington daughter
of Preserved and Phebe Boilean of Vt. Their children were William,
Cynthia, John G, Maldon, Miles, Elmer, Hovey E., Edward S, and Phebe, William
was born in Chemung June 19, 1820, and married Oct. 13, 1847, Mary A Beers,
of Elmira, daughter of Jabez and Rebecca Wood Beers, by whom he had these
children; George S, Lillian R, Edward M, Mary A., Alice P, Bertha E., Florence
and Harry W. Mr. Lowamn is a resident of Chemung, where he has lived since
1848. Edward married Inez carr, of Manmouth ILL. Nov. 5, 1879. She is a
daughter of John and Mary Carr and their children are Ida me, Eleanor M.,
Donald J, Maden C and E Lewis. Oct 17, 1888, Florence Lowman married George
B., son of John L and nancy Randell Myers, and they have one daughter,
Ruth. They are residents of Fishkill on the Hudson.
Marshall, John, a native of Ireland came to Canajoharie, NY where he died aged 104. He served in the war of the Rev. His children were Eleazer, William, James, Thomas, Jacob, Lydia, mary, Betsey, Eunice, Hannah, and Jeremiah. The latter came to America with his father at the age of three years, settling in Ashland in 1832, and died in the town of Chemung at the age of 72. He married Nancy Shannon. They had the following children: William, Eunice, Betsey, Lydia, Ann, mary, Gershom, George, Thomas, Emanuel and Jacob; Emuanal Marshall was born Canajoharie July 4, 1831, and July 4, 1863 married Jennie, daughter of John and Sarah Ann Rockwell. They have one daughter, Daisy, who married July 17, 1880, Lebeus Goldsmith by whom she had four children, Ellis, Jennie, George, and David. mr. Marshall is a farmer.
Mathews, Amasa born in Ct. served in the Rev. war and came to Schuyler Co NY where he died. He was a farmer. HE married Rebecca Cortwright, by whom he had these children; Abner, Cortwright, Lawrence, Amasa, Hester, REbecca, Loys, Peggy, Susan and Ellie W., Amasa Mathews was born in Ct. and came to Hector, Schuyler co nY when 12 yrs old nd owned the farm where General Sullivan had his winter encampment when he marched through Chemung Valley. He died at the age of 81 in 1860. He married Polly Everetts and their children are Amelis, Joel, daniel, Lorinda, Lawrence, Milford, Lovina, Oranda, Elmer, and Clarissa. Joel was born in Hector NY march 27, 1810, and married March 27, 1832, Polly daughter of Benjamin and Merribee Bird. Their children were Hudson, Amasa, Merribee, Milford and Arselia. He married second S. Janeette, daughter of Samuel and Ruth Jay Clark of English decent and his children by her are F.JUdd and A jay. Milfore E. Mathews served in Co. A. 10th Cal. NY Vol. and was killed at the battle of Sailor Creek, Brukville, Va. Near Richmond, the last battle before the surrender of General Lee. Samuel Clark served in the war of 1812 as first Lt. of the 88th Reg. NY militia by commission by Gov. Daniel d Tompkins.
Merriam, Albert, born in Greene, Chenango co NY June 5, 1815, died at Wellsburg, NY Feb. 28, 1890. He came in 1840 to AShland where he married Harriet M Smith of Hector, Schuyler co NY. daughter of Caleb and Lucy Smith. Their children were Caleb S., born Jan. 15, 1841; Margaret born Oct. 11, 1842; Amos B born Aug. 14, 1844; Monroe A born March 1, 1846; Homer born Oct 24, 1850l; Sophronia born May 13, 1852; Mary Jane born July 8, 1854; George W born May 22, 1856; and Herman S born Jan. 16, 1858. Monroe A.,; Marriam married Apr. 10, 1872, Ella D Smith of Otego, Otsego CO NY. was born Feb. 26, 1853; and was a daughter of Samuel B and Amanda R.[Rice] Smith. Their children are Edwin S born Sept. 2, 1873; Grace E born June 22, 1875; and kenneth A born Jan. 16, 1881. He has a farm near Wellsburg.
Roberts, Jonathan son of Nathan, of the the first settlers of Wellsburg and a native of Orange Co NY was born in 1782 and came to Ashland ten years before marriage. He cleared a farm near Wellsburg and died at the age of 45. He served in the eh war of 1812. Mr. Roberts married Mary daughter of Abner and Catura Wells nd his children were Jasper, Henry, George W., John, Guy N., Abner, William, Isaac, Sally and Caroline. George W roberts was born in Big Flats, Nov. 5, 1808, and in 1834 married Sally Ann daughter of Phineas and Polly Squires, by whom he had children; Phineas S, Addison P., George H, and Sarah F. His first wife Mrs. Roberts died Feb. 21, 1886, at the age of 68. and he married second, Huldah Rathbun. Mr. Roberts is a resident of Wellsburg. He served as justice of the peace in Chemung for 4 yrs. and in Southport 2 yrs. He is 81 yrs of age.
Scudder family. They are of English origin. Thomas Scudder was the first of the family to emigrate t o this country, coming in 1657. His grandson Treadwell O, son of Joel was born on LI and came to Ashland in 1839. Where he died on the Scudder farm, aged 40. He served as supervisor in 1846. His first marriage was with Deborah Oakely, by whom he has six children, John I., Mary J., Israel O., Keziah, Julia, and Treadwell. Israel O Scudder was born in Islip LI. Jan. 24, 1828. and married Jan. 14, 1868, Julia daughter of Harvey and Fanny L smith Farrand, and their children are Harvey, Fanny D, Henry S, and Joseph F. He served as supervisor in Ashland from 1880 to 1886 and now owns and and occupies the Homestead farm. Tredwell Scudder was a rep. in the US Congress two terms and for 17 yrs. in NY State Legislature and was col. in the war of 1812.
Searles, William was born in England
and came to Dutchess co NY among the first settlers. Here his son John
was born. The latter came in 1830 to Chemung co . where he died in 1849,
age 56. He served in the war of 1812 and his widow received a pension.
He married Abigail daughter of Isaac Bell of Orange co by whom he had seven
children. viz.: Hannah, Ann, William, Alfred, Almira, Clarissa, and Sarah.
Alfred Searles was born at Cornwall on the Hudson on May 1,1820. He came
to Chemung co with his fathers family at the age of 10 and married Sarah,
daughter of Amos and Ruth Baker. Their children are; Fosse, Ray, and Fay.
They live on the fruit homestead a t the base of Sullivan Hill. alfred
Searles served as master mechanic on bridges, mills and carpenter work
in the late war, having Nashville, Tenn. as headquarters.
Smith, Timothy a native of Orange co.
NY came to Ashland and settled on Seeley Creek among the first settlers
of the town. Here he died aged about 70 yrs. He married Fanny, daughter
of Rev. Mr. Little and the children were Solomon L., Archibald, Elizabeth,
Job, Margaret, Hannah, Abigail, Susan, and Uriah. Solomon Smith born in
Orange Co. came ot Ashland with his father, where he remained until his
death at the age of 73. He was born in 1777 and married Julia Daughter
of Samuel and Mercy Barlett Seeley and their children were Harriet. Fanny
L married twice, her first husband James H. son of Joseph Farrand. he died
in 1842 aged 33 yrs. She married second Ebenezer Sully of Orange Co who
died in Ashland age about 60. Mrs. Sully children are Henry C, Joseph and
Julia,
Sarah, born Jan. 30, 1848; Sophronia born Sept.20,
1857; and William H. born Apr.8, 1841. On Dec. 9, 1868., he married Margaret
daughter of Albert and Malinda Smith Merriam and their children are Charles
B. born Nov. 13, 1869, and Edna H. born July 24, 1881. His is now a resident
farmer on the Wheeler homestead.
Wood, Thomas was a native of NY of Scotch decent, and died in Orange co NY. His children were John, Samuel, Thomas, Horace, Ruth, Abbey, Rebecca, Polly, Coe, Jane, Sophia and James T. The latter a native of Orange Co. was born Mar. 12, 1806 and came to Waverly in 1852, dying in Ashland aged 78. He married Christian A, daughter of John and Elizabeth Rhodes Cherry, by whom he had the following children; Frances E, Mary J, Eunice E, Josephine, Sarah V., Christian A, John C, charles B., and James H. Wood. The latter was born in Orange county and came to Ashland in 1865. In the same year he married Elizabeth, daughter of Moses D and Polly Burt Herman, and their children are, William O, Helen, Jennie D, and Minnie E. Mr. Wood served in the Co I, 72d NY Vol. and Co. B 120th NY Vol. and was promoted to second lieutenant and captain. He also served in Company E 73rd NY vol. and July 15, 1865, was discharged. HE was elected supervisor in 1888 and reelected in 1889, 1890 and 1891.
Wright, Robbins, born near Burlington
Vt. came to Danby NY where he died at the age of 60 yrs. He was a farmer.
His wife Mary Bradley Wright bore him three children. Luther R, Hanford
D, and Eloise M. Luther R. Wright was born in Tompkins Co NY and was supposed
to have been killed in the west. He married Eliza Caassida
daughter of Abner and Harriet Clark Cassida, and his children are Robbins,
D[deceased] and Abner C. The latter was born at Danby NY on Jan 4, 1857
and came to Wellsburg in march 1878. H He is a druggist and purchased
a creamery in 1879, which has an annual capacity of 2,000 cows.
BALDWIN
Harrington, Silas, a native of Rhode Island moved to Vt. and died at Rutland at an advanced age. He served in the war of the Revolution. His wife Hannah bore him seven children: Hannah, Abbie, Silas, Sally, David, Allen and Reuben. David Harrington was born in NY and moved to Erin, NY. in 1820, among the early settlers of that town, and cleared a farm at what is now known as Harringtons Corners. He finally removed to Baldwin where he died at the age of 86. his two brothers Reuben and Allen, were killed in the war of 1812 at the battle of Plattsburgh. He married Annie, daughter of Thomas H Hulett, and their children were Matilda, Avery, Mason, David, Lucinda, Thomas, Sally, Oliver, Abigail L., Chester and Amasa E. the latter was born in Erin, March 27, 1827, and married Ellen Clark. Their children were Melissa, Seward, and Cummings. His second wife was Elizabeth Beckhorn, by whom he had one daughter, annie M. He married third, annie C, daughter of John and Caroline Mitchell. Mr. Harrington is now a general merchant and postmaster at North Chemung. In this business he has been successfully engaged for ten years, post master for 14 yrs. town clerk for 6 yrs. and notary public for 6 yrs. William N. Harrington, son of Oliver an d grandson of David, born in Erin, Sept. 28, 1846, married Catherine daughter of Peter M. Bunto and by her had four children, Curtis, Edward, charles, and Burtus. He married second, Sarah daughter of Isaac Derry and their children were Annie, William, an d Sarah. He is now farmer and blacksmith in Baldwin.
Sites, John W. was born in Charlottsburg, Morris Co. N J. His father came from Germany an died in NJ at an advanced age., John W. married Hester Fredericks, of NJ, daughter of Martin Fredericks, and by her has had these children ; Polly, Elizabeth, Jemima, Ann, Nichols, and Cornelius. The latter born in NJ. Feb. 22, 1813, came to Baldwin, Chemung Co. in 1830 where he now resides. He married Elmina daughter of Nelson and Lydia Griswold Lemon and their children are Mary A., Adaline, and Hetty. John W. died Aug. 31, 1851, aged 78 and his wife Hester on March 9, 1832 age 51.
Smith, John born at Monroe, NY came to Baldwin in 1810 among the first settlers of the town. His children were Hophni, Anthony D., Timothy J., Sally, Fanny, Abigail, Levi, Monroe, George, and Susan. Honhni Smith born in Orange co. NY. came to Baldwin with his father, where he died in 1830. aged 32. He married Betsey daughter of Abram and Abigail Brewer and their children were Schuyler, susan, John E., Betsey, and Hophni E.. The latter was born Dec. 8, 1829 in Chemung, and married Jan. 27, 1859, Mary C daughter of William an d Margaret Conklin Young, by whom he had these children; Sarah A., William A.,Carey M, and Judd. He resides on a farm in Baldwin where he has lived 27 yrs. He has served as justice four years and as assessor for 3 yrs. William Young was a commissioned officer in the Rev. War.
Warren, Elmer E. son of George and grandson
of Enoch is a native of Baldwin, and was born March 15, 1858. Feb.
3, 1886 he married Mary Carpenter of Chemung NY daughter of Henry F and
Emeline Drake Carpenter and is now a resident of Baldwin on the homestead
farm of his father. Henry F. Carpenter served in the Rebellion. Thomas,
his father, served in the war of 1812 and his grandfather participated
in the Rev.war.
BIG FLATS
Bradshaw, Thomas was a native of Cambridgeshire County England where he died at the age of about 80. He was a laborer and married Sarah James of Norfolk, England, daughter of Robert James, and their children were Joseph, Sarah A., Jonathan, Mary A, Susan A and Robert. Joseph Bradshaw born Jan. 14, 1832 at Cambridgeshire, England, came to Utica NY in 1853 and than went to Horseheads, being now a resident of Big Flats. He married Oct. 27, 1851, Ann Pedley, of Cheshire Cambridgeshire, England, daughter of James Pedley and Sarah Green and they have eight children: Henry W., born Sept. 6, 1852, at Cambridgeshire, England; Joseph born Dodington England, Oct. 26, 1853; Mary A born at Horseheads, Oct 14, 1855; Elizabeth born in Big Flats, June 8, 1857; Edward P, born Big Flats, July 2, 1859; Harris M. born Aug. 30, 1864; and Minnie B and lector and postmaster.
Crapo, Richard, born in Ct, died at New Bedford, Mass. aged 82. His wife Elizabeth died at the age of 81. His children were Job, Peter, Ararican, Paul, Mary, and Eliza. Job Crapo, born in New Bedford, Mass. came to Richford, NY. among the early settlers, where he died in 1874 at the age of 72. She was a daughter of STephen and Maryam?, died in Lisle, Broom Co NY. age 42. She was a daughter of STephen and Mary Japhet and by her had these children; Stephen, Edgar, Job, John, Roxy, Mary E, Cordelia and Reuben. Thelater was born in New Bedford, Mass. Sept. 20, 1824; and married Mary Ann daughter of Alexander Pittsley. Their children are Frederick, William H, Edgar, Oscar, George, Wesley J., Eliza, Mary D, and Cordelia. HE married second Phebe J, daughter of Charles W tombs, and their children are Isaac G, Adaline, Charles E, Reuben, Stephen, and Harry A. ; Edgar Crapo married Ida M, daughter of Edward Blanchard. The reside in Chemung Co.
Davis, David a native of Wales was a
farmer by occupation and died at the age of about 90. His son David Davis
came from Wales to Bloomfield NH in 1836 as a woolen manufacturer. After
residing for a time in the town of Big Flats he removed to the town of
Portland, Wis. He married Susan Davis, of Wales, not a relative and in
1877 died at the age of 85.
His son David L. Davis born in Montgomeryshire, North
Wales, Oct. 23, 1727, came with his father's family in his boyhood to the
US. HE studied for a homeopathic physician and commenced his practice in
Waterloo, Wis.. In 1855 he married Eliza Boorman, a native of England
born in County Sussex in 1855, and a daughter of Copping and Hannah Foster
Boorman, who came in 1849 to the US. Five children have been born
to them, two of whom, Eben and Carl S are deceased. Their daughter Dora
L, married Lindley M Hull, a graduate of Lima University, in 1880. They
have had two daughters, Wynonia and Rena. They reside in Wewatchie, Wash.
Their son Arthur a farmer and resides in Blaine, Ill. Their youngest daughter
Hattie L, married Frank Tifft of Big Flats, in 1890, a farmer. Dr. Davis
practiced as a physician in the town of Waterloo, Wis., for 20 yrs., when
he received an appointment as official physician to the Pawnee Indians
in Nebraska. He also gave medical attendance to al the government employees
in that place. He remained there for three yrs. assisting both in the moral
and religious advancement of the Indians and removed then to Falls Church,
Va. six miles from Washington DC. where he practiced medicine and where
he and his family formed a large circle of friends. Dr. and Mrs.
Davis were present at the inauguration of President Hayes, Grant, Garfield,
and Arthur. He was employed at Mt Vernon, the home of Washington and was
with president Garfield only 30 days before his assassination. the
family resided in Va. for 12 yrs. in 1884 they moved to Big Flats NY where
they now live.
Earnes, Warren was a native of Mass. and a son of Joshua who served in the Revolutionary war. By his wife Hannah he had nine children; Edwin, Adelia, George, Harriet, John, Hubert, Isaac, Horace and Melisse. Edwin M. Eames, a native of Pa. moved to Danby Tompkins Co NY than to Elmira, where he died April 6, 1874 age 53. He was a carpenter and joiner by trade. He married Nov. 17 1844. Ruth, daughter of Zenas and Christina Scutt Stannard who was born April 28, 1825, at Paris Oneida NY. and their children were Annace D., born Aug. 27, 1845; Elizabeth born Dec. 20, 1846; Melvina A born June 10, 1848; Edward F born Aug. 21, 1850; Zenas W born Dec. 25, 1852; Christina M. born Dec. 11, 1854; Emily F. born Jan. 31, 1858; Warren J. born dec. 22, 1859; and Elnora M. born Dec. 19, 1861. His widow Ruth M survives at the age of 65, residing in Big Flats with her son, Edward F.; Emily F, Eames married Rolla Earnes, Dec. 29, 1880, a son of John and Emily E. Sperry Eames, and they have one daughter, Edna B. born at Elmira, march 21, 1882.
Easterbrooks, William was born in Providence R. I. where he died. He was a fisherman, and whaler, by occupation, and served in the Rev. War. He married Mary Miller, and had children: Caleb, Martin, Nathaniael, Abial, Mary, Rachel, Charity, and William. The latter was born at Providence and came to Herkimer NY and finally moved to Hornby Steuben Co where he died at the age of 84. HE married Mary, daughter of Abial and Mary Scott Eighma. [Mrs. Eighma was a sister of Gen. Winfield Scott.] the children of Mr. and Mrs. Esterbrooks were Abial, Mahaly, daniel, George, Philander, Mary, charity, William, John A., Samuel, Abram, Mianda, and Isaac. John A Esterbrook born at Butternuts, Otsego Co NY Feb. 29, 1814, came to Corning NY in 1860 where they reside. He married in 1838. Miranda daughter of Abel N. and Diantah Armstrong Sweet, and their children are Diantah, Mary, Serena, John M, Philander, Newton, and Jasper. Philander was born in Hornby NY Sept. 22, 1848, and married Apr. 24, 1879, Emma H Whitcomb of Big Flats, daughter of Zeno and Diantha Whitcomb, and is now proprietor of the Buena Vista house. the original Easterbrooks family were William Abial and Caleb, brothers who came from London, England. about 1590, to Providence RI.
Farr, Henry, son of Richard and Jane Quin Farr, was born near Belfast Co. Antrim, Ireland, in 1792, the youngest son of the family of seven. He was educated in his native place, where he remained until his 28th yr. Emigrating to Canada in 1825 he remained there a short time. when he moved to Clinton co NY where he lived for years. In 1829 he came to Elmira and finally moved to big Flats where he died Feb. 7, 1877 at the age of 85. He was a member of the Presbyterian Church and a member of the Masonic fraternity for 50 yrs. He married 1815, Jane daughter of valentine and Betsey McCan who was born Jun 15, 1798. Their children were John, b. Jan. 12, 1816; Valentine b. May 15, 1818; Eliza J. b. april 15, 1823, married Daniel F Brown and died Dec. 12, 1865; Esther b. March 5, 1826, married a R DePuy,; Sarahette, b. Aug. 17, 1828, died May 3, 1855; William Henry b. Jan. 28, 1831; James E b. April 15, 1833; George W. b. Oct. 2, 1836, died april 25, 1856; Dayton S. b. Dec. 18, 1839, died March 23, 1841; and Mary D. born Oct. 23, 1845, married Nov. 29, 1877, F H fish of Meadsville, Crawford Co Pa. William Henry Farr married Jan. 24, 1855, Margaret M. daughter of John an d Louise Camp Storms, of Corning NY. He is now a resident of Big flats, where he lived since 1855. He has been supervisor two terms, and has held many other offices of public trust. Valentine married Mary Edminister Oct. 13, 1849, a daughter of William and Polly smith Edminister, and their children are Zernah J, b. aug. 13, 1850; John V. b. Nov. 3, 1851; Esther A b. Oct. 21,1852; Martha F. b. Jan 8, 1855; Mary E. b. Aug. 2, 1853; George W.born. Sept. 15, 1860; William E. b. June 8, 1862; Abram L b. Feb. 11, 1865; and Fanny E born March 28, 1872. Zerah J Farr married JOhn Relyea Jr. son of John and Eliza Gee Relyea, and they have one adopted daughter, Ruah M. John R Farr married Hattie E. daughter of John and Cordelia Chandler by whom he has two children, Edna N and George V.
Farr, Robert, son of James was born in Ireland and came to Big Flats with his father at the age of 6. He is now a cotton planter and a resident of Cameron, Seriven Co.. Ga. He married Mary M Kinball of Catlin NY. daughter of Abram and Nany Bryant kimball and their children are Cephas B, Mary I , Charles , Nancy E, and Walton K. . The latter was born in Big Flats Jan. 15., 1853, and married Dec. 31, 1873, Emeline daughter of Charles and Betsey Leonard Davenport of Corning. Their children are Rosa E., Laura E., Lillie E, Rollin W, Mabel L. and israel N. Mr. Farr resides in big Flats.
Fitch, Ezra, was a native of Ct. as was his father. He died there at an advanced age. He served in the war of the Revolution and drew a pension and at the time of the war sold his farm and took his pay in continental money, which proved to be worthless. His children were Ezra, David, Joshua, james, and Ross. Ezra Fitch b. in Ct. Dec. 12,1772, and met death by drowning in Chemung river March 28, 1840. He came to Green Chenango Co N Y . Where he married Lucinda Hollenbeck, who was b. Dec. 15, 1783 and died July 13, 1855. she ws the daughter of Abram and margaret Storms Hollenbeck. Their children were Daniel K b. jan. 5, 1809; John S. b. July 8, 1810, died March 16, 1883, Orson H. born Feb. 6, 1812; Mason P born Dec. 12, 1814; died Feb. 24, 1882; Lewis born Feb. 14, 1816; Margaret b. April 6, 1818; Ammie H. b. May 7, 1820; Mandane b. March 13, 1822; and Hester M. b. July 1,1825, died Sept. 1, 1840. Lewis fitch married first Minerva Beckwith of Horseheads NY Oct. 24, 1843, a daughter of Albert A and hannah Griswold Beckwith. Her father was the second sheriff of Chemung Co. Their children are Julia b. June 4, 1846, died March 27, 1847; Albert B born Feb. 14, 1848; Ella O, born July 25, 1850; Townsend B born June 23, 1852; Rea C born May 14, 1856, died March 17, 1857; and Annah M born Jan. 24, 1859. He married second Caroline s Beckwith, sister of his first wife, who was born March 20, 1834, and died Nov. 21, 1889. By her he had one daughter, Bertha C born Oct. 24, 1875. Lewis fitch with his father and brothers, cleared a farm in big Flats, and his brother, Daniel K was the leading spirit in promoting the building of the first bridge over the Chemung river three miles above Elmira. the Fitches were extensive lumbermen in early days and Albert B. is now a large lumber dealer in Elmira, the firm of Fitch and Aldrich.
Gilbert, Elmer, a native of Ct. came to Broome Co NY where he died at an advanced age. He was a farmer, and his children were Lazarus, Jarvis, John, samuel, Andres W., and Annie. Andrew Gilbert was born in Ulster Co NY and married Anne C daughter of Hull Stratton. Their children are Lucrectia [Mrs. Whitney] Louisa [Mrs. Schofield], mary [Mrs. Sheak], Lydia A, Elmer, , Gilbert, and Uri R. Elmer was b. March 8, 1828, in Broom co and married April 21, 1863, Sarah daughter of Caleb Wolcott, by whom he has one daughter, Carrie, born July 25, 1868. Mr. Gilbert resides in Big Flats, where eh he has served as justice of the peace for 21 yrs. He married second, Mrs. Erminda S Trusdell, daughter of John and Mary Silsbee, who was born July 26, 1835.
Hammond, Oliver was one of three brothers, William, Lebbeas, and Oliver who survived the Wyoming massacre in the Revolutionary war. born in Luzerne Co Pa he died at Kinnian Mt. Pa. at the age of 54. Martin, who died aged 75; Rhoda who died age 84; Olive who died age 76; Lucy who died age 54; Ann who survives at the age of 109 yrs. Martin Hammond was born in Southport NY in July 1792, and died in July 1865. He married a daughter of Guerden Chapman, who died in 1864, at the age of 67. Their children were Sally A; William o; Hiral B; George W; Martin, Mary L and Charles H. the latter born in Big Flats May 29, 1838, married Amanda Kennedy of that town and daughter of Elias and Eliza Dill Kennedy. His children are Martin E and Nellie M. martin R Hammond married Emma, daughter of John an d Annie Gleason Stermer, who has born him one son, Charlie M, Martine Hammond served in the war of 1812 at the burning of Buffalo. HE came two terms as justice of the peace.
Johnson, Christopher, a native of Germany came to Pa. and moved to Ithaca NY. He served in the Revolutionary war an d died at an advanced age. His children were Jacob, Mary, catherine, Barbara, and John A. the latter was born in Pa. and came to Ithaca, where he lived several years, but finally moved to Odessa, where he died at 72, on aug. 30, 1869. He a a was carder and cloth dresser by trade. He married Sarah, daughter of Leander Stephens who died in 1874, at the age of 77. Their children were Susan, Franklin, Priscilla, Sarah, Anne, Ursula, Mary Jane, christopher, Lester, Jerome, Amos, John, jacob and George W. The latter born Aug. 22, 1836 in Schuyler co NY, married in 1868, Melvina Eames of Elmira daughter of Edwin and Ruth Stannard Eames, and their children are JOhn E. born Jan. 22, 1870; albert E. born June 5, 1874; Bertrice V. born July 27, 1880; and George M. born Feb.14, 1891. He is a farmer by occupation and resides in Big Flats, NY. George W. served in co. E, 151st NY Vol., discharged in 1865, and is now drawing a pension. Jerome B. served in the 14th artillery' Lester and JOhn P served and died in the service in 1862, aged respectively 28 and 22.
Lowe, Cornelius W., born in NJ. and came to Big Flats in 1794 where he died at the age o of 80. He married Phoebe Roberts and their children were Nathan, Phoebe, Allie and Hannah [twins] Rebecca, and Joseph. the latter was born Big Flats in 1808 and cleared the homestead farm, where he remained until his death in 1860, at the age of 52.. He married Julia A Roberts, of Orange co NY Sept. 25, 1834. She was born May 1, 1809, daughter of James and mary Coleman roberts, and is still living at the age of 83. they has one daughter, Cynthia who married Joseph R. Lowe, of Manchester, England, Nov. 23, 1858., a son of Joseph and Sarah Lowe. Their children are Nathan J. born June 11, 1861; Julia A born Jan. 2, 1866; Mary B. born may 5, 1868; helen M. born Dec. 7, 1869; Charles A. born aug. 31, 1871; and Hattie O born May 25, 1877. william Lowe was an early manufacturer and merchant of earthenware at Elmira. James Roberts served in the war of 1812. cornelius W. Lowe bought the home farm of $1.25 per acres, and paid for it by a hauling salt from Syracuse to Elmira and vicinity.
Mc Nulty_____ a native of Pa. came to Big Flats with his family JOhn, Polly, Hannah, Catherine, William and Andrew, when the former was but 4 yrs. old. Here he cleared a farm and died in 1873.. at the age of 72. John Married first Eveling Owen, daughter of Elazeer and Margaret Buck Owen, and they had one son, D LeGrand. HE married second Adaline Owen, a sister of his first wife. D LeGrand, born Sept. 4, 1832, died Aug. 6, 1873. He married Jan. 24, 1860, Margaret L. Tuttle, of Big Flatts, who was born Feb. 11, 1839, a daughter of William A. and Mary Boss Tuttle, and their children were Mary a born March 11, 1862; Clara born May 31, 1863, died Oct. 12, 1873; Louise born Nov .14, 1865; William T. b. Jan. 10, 1868; and John B. born June 5, 1871; His widow Margaret survives him and resides on the homestead farm. Mary A married Charles Gregory, of Big Flats, Aug. 24, 1881, an they have three children; Louise born. Feb. 11, 1884; Le grand, born april 15, 1885; and Edith born May 17, 1887.
Mundy, Nathan, born in Elizabeth NJ. May 17, 1770, died at Big Flats May 16, 1847, her e he had lived since 1823. April 22, 1792, he married Mary Drake, who was born Feb. 15, 1766, and who died Jan. 23, 1840 at Big Flats. His only son, Reuben M. Mundy, was born in New Brunswick NJ, Feb. 28, 1793, and died at Big Flats Feb. 10, 1862. He served in the war of 1812, and came to Big Flats in 1819. He married at Barton, Tioga co NY Nov. 4, 1819. Hannah daughter of Bennajah and Mary Munds of Wilkesbarre, Pa. she died at Big Flats april 13, 1868. Of their children Nicholas S was born in Barton, tioga Co NY, Dec. 26, 1819, and is now a resident of Big Flats. He has been in the mercantile business and is also successful farmer, owning six fine farms. he is living at the age of 71. In 1819 he paid for a portion of his land $12.50 per acre; in 1835 he bought 160 acres at $60. per acres; in 1865 he bought 100 acres at $100. per acres; and the next year he paid 125. for 100 acres more. His only brother Simeon L was born in Big flats, Feb. 10, 1825, and died Dec. 18, 1853. His sisters are Catherine, born Aug. 13, 1821 and Mary L born Aug. 3, 1829. Catherine Mundy married Alfred, son of James Hughson, of Dutchess Co NY. by whom she hs one son, Simeon M. she was born Jan. 25, 1844, and Nov. 10, 1869, married Emily A VanOrder, of Ormel, Allegany co NY. His children are Frederick W. born Feb. 7, 1871, and Louisa C born Sept. 27, 1873. In 1891 Simeon Hughson was elected supervisor of the town of Big Flats.
Ripley, James born in Unadilla NY died at Utica at an advanced age, having served in the war of the REvolution. His wife, Sarah died at the same place aged 80. and his only son James P Ripley, who was born at Unadilla, died in Corning in 1885, at the age of 82. He married Nancy, daughter of John Tallman of utica, and their children were George N, Frances, Charles C, Dewitt C., Jediah, and Martha. He married second Lydia daughter of John N Davis by whom he had one son, Judson Ripley. Dewit C. Ripley was born at big Flats July 14, 1843, and April 3, 1870, he married Lucy, daughter of Daniel Woodruff. She died in 1881, aged 32, leaving these children; William W and Lena M. He married second Sophronia Burd, June 1, 1883. She was a daughter of austin Reeder. They now reside in Big Flats. Mrs. Ripley's first husband was William Burd who died March 29, 1881. at the age of 51. Their children were Amy a and Austin R.
Ryan, Gilbert was born in County clare, Ireland where he lived and died at the age of 40. He married Mary Shader who died at the age of 70. Their children were Bridget, Mary, Margaret, Kate, Timothy, Patrick and Martin. The latter was born in Ireland in 1822 and married in 1851, Mary Gorman, of Ireland, a daughter of Michael and Winifred McMan Gorman, who was born in 1828/ Their children were JOhn, Mary, Winnifred, Michael, Kate, Susan, william, Annie, Martin, Margaret, and Timothy. The latter came to Big Flats NY in 1849. He is now a retired farmer residing in the village at the age of 70 and his wife 65.
Schuyler Samuel was born in Newark NJ and died at Hornby Steuben CO NY aged 84. He married Lydia m Hilts, who died in Schuyler co NY at the age of 93. Their children were Samuel, Heman [deceased] Norman, Dorman, daniel, Philip, Ann, Mary, Harriet, Eliza, and Effie. Dorman was born in Ames Schoharie Co NY and married first Sarah A, daughter of Cyrus and Sarah a Hubbel Sanford. Their children were Dennis, Mark, and Cyrus d. the latter was born at Orange Schuyler Co Nov. 10, 1857, married June 2, 1886, Dora A Daughter of John and Polly Allen Houghtaling, by whom he has one son, Glenn, who was born Feb. 15, 1887/ Mr. Schuyler a farmer and butcher, resides in the village of Big flats.
Smith, Simeon, son of Israel and a native of New England came to Sidney Chenango Co NY in 1800, where he remained until his death, which occurred at the age of 80. His wife Patience Stockwell also died aged 80. His children were Chloe, Patience, Lucinda, Titus, Enos, Simeon, Joseph, Giles, and Susan. Titus Smith was born in Sidney in 1801, and came to Caton, Steuben Co NY where he cleared a farm and lived until his death OCt. 22, 1865. He married Nov. 2, 1824, Lucy P Babcock, of Stongton Co. who ws born July 20, 1804, an d died Oct. 22, 1875. she was a daughter of Elias P. and Sarah Lewis Babcock. Their children were Emory, born March 15, 1827; Lewis P. born Dec. 19, 1828; Simeon S. born July 23, 1831; Lucinda born Feb. 22, 1835; Enos s born May 2, 1840; Thompson born Nov. 19, 1841; and James P. born March 26, 1837. These children were all born at Caton NY in the first frame house built in town, James P Smith came to Big flats on April 1, 1866, and Nov. 13, 1862, he married Sarah J Cross of caton, a native of Cambridge, England, and a daughter of William and mary Cross. she died Feb. 15, 1887, aged 42. His children by her were florence, who died young; Lucy born Sept. 6, 1865; William born Aug. 16, 1869; and Carrie born Sept. 15, 1870. He married second Dencie Axtell, of Catlin NY april 18, 1888. she was born Nov. 25, 1855, a daughter of John and Sabra Brockwell Axtell. They had one son, James A. Mr. Smith is a farmer. With his brothers he enlisted in the late war, Simon S and Thompson having enlisted in 1862 in company H, Engineer Corps, and survived until the close. thompson Smith has been for some years hopelessly insane. Titus established the firs t Sabbath school in his town an d was deacon of the Presbyterian Church. Enos S Smith married Jane Pew of Caton, Nov. 30, 1865; she is the daughter of Daniel Pew. They had one son Edgar, deceased. He came to Big Flats in 1873.
Whitcomb, Joseph, son of Joseph M. was born in Grafton Vt. and died at Lakeville, Washington Co NY. age 74. He married Ennice Chapman, who died at the age o f60. Their children were Milton, thomas, Polly, Horace, Harriet, Heno, William, Oren and Maria. Heno Whitcomb born in Grafton Vt. died at Big Flats Jan. 26, 1877 at the age of 57. He was a resident of this town for 40 yrs. and was a soldier in the late war being with Sherman in his march to the sea, as was also his brother Oren. He enlisted as Pvt. in co. I in 141st NY vol. col. Hataway, of Elmira. Mr. Whitcomb married Diantha Middaugh, of Big flats in 1820. She was a daughter of Benjamin and Fanny English Middaugh. their children were Marcellus, Harmon B, Herbert T, Henry, and F Elizabeth all deceased and Legrand P, Josiah t, and Emma H,. the latter born Feb. 26, 1857, married Philander Easterbrook, april 4, 1879, and a son of John and Miranda Sweet Easterbrooks. Henro Whitcomb a farmer and millwright, together with his three brothers built four grist mills in and about Salem Vt. His widow Diantha survives at the age o f70. and resides at Big Flats. Daniel Middaugh served in the Revolution and was at the battle of Bunker Hill.
Wormley, John of German decent, was a
native of Lancaster Pa. where he died at the age of 64. He as twice married,
his first wife being Maria Wise, of Berks Co Pa. and his second wife being
Mary Bower who was born at Lancaster Pa. Nov. 20, 1776, and died in York
Co Pa. In 1848 aged about 70. The children of his second marriage were
Jacob; Frederick, born may 12, 1810; Maria born. Jan. 17, 1808; Englebart,
born Sept. 16, 1812; Elizabeth born Jan. 3, 1815; George born April 20,
1817; and William born June 2, 1819. Jacob Wormley ws born in cumberland
co Pa. in 1805, an d died at Corning NY. in 1886, age 73. He married
Phoebe Riker of Big Flats, a daughter of John Riker, and their children
were John B. 1831, Mary, Jacob, George, William, Charlotte, Isabella, Jane,
and Simeon L. the latter born Oct. 9, 1832, married Lucy A hubbard, of
Caton, Steuben CO.NY daughter of William and Martha Hubbard, who died Aug.
12, 1889 age 58. Mr. Wormley is a farmer in this town. William F. Wormley
was born in Northumberland Co Pa. June 27, 1819, and in 1828 came with
his brother Jacob and his mother to Big Flats. he married barbara daughter
of Michael Minsh and they have had 8 children; Maria, Emma, charlotte,
Theopholus, Phoebe, Lucretia, Witsel, mary and Ellen [deceased]. Elizabeth
Wormely, born in Cumberland Co. Pa. Jan. 3, 1815, married in 1832, Barney
Van Deren, who died Oct. 20, 1860 age 58. Their children were George W
born April 3, 1832; Benjamin F born Feb. 8, 1837; and Grant, born March
3, 1847. Mrs. VanDeren survives at the age of 77, and resides in Big Flats.
