Union County, Ohio Biographies Project - Israel Jordan
ISRAEL JORDAN
Israel
Jordan, a carpenter and farmer near Pharisburg, was born in Licking
County, Ohio, June 28, 1822, and is a son of James and Mary (Wells)
Jordan, natives of Maine, of English descent, who emigrated to Ohio
when Israel was three years of age, and located in Licking County. Our
subject early adopted the occupation of farming, to which he had been
reared, also learning and working at the carpenter trade. He was
educated at Hartford, where he remained until eighteen years of age,
receiving a thorough English education. In politics, he is an old line
Democrat, having cast his first ballot for Martin Van Buren. He came to
this county about twenty-five years ago and for a full quarter of a
century has made this the place of his abode.
