JOSEPH R. HATCHER
Joseph R. Hatcher, a farmer, was born in Logan County, Ohio, August
8,1818, and is a son of James and Sarah (Ray) Hatcher, natives of
Virginia, of English descent, and members of the Society of
Friends. His father was a farmer and surveyor, and did a great
deal of surveying in the early days of this country. He came to
Ohio soon after the war of 1812. Our subject was raised and educated as
a farmer, and in early life taught school for a time, but farming has
been the principal occupation of his life. He came to Union
County in 1853, and settled in Claibourne Township, where he now owns
163 acres of land. In 1842, be married Angeline, a daughter of
Isaac and Sarah Headley, of English descent. They have had eight
children, to wit: J. D. (a member of the One Hundred and Twenty-first
Ohio Volunteer Infantry, and died in the service), Sarah J., Margaret
E., Emily F., Nancy, Charles B., C. L. and Belle. Mrs. Hatcher is
a member of the Christian Church. Mr. Hatcher is a Universalist
in belief and a Republican in politics.
