Commodore Anson Blackstone

 

JAMES HUGO BLACKSTONE

1846 - 1921
 

 

 

James Hugo Blackstone was born on March 7, 1846, to Commodore Anson Blackstone  and Nancy A. Candler in Birmingham, Alabama.  At age 17, in 1863, James Hugo joined the Confederate Army and served until the close of the Civil War.  In November 28, 1866 he married Mary Williamson Stringer and moved with his young bride of 16 to Upshur County, Texas.  Mary was born in Harrison County, Texas, on July 7, 1851. James and Mary settled on a tract of 100 acres, west of the Stringer homeplace, in what was then known as Paint Rock Community.

James and Mary had the following children, who are pictured here, except for Nancy Dinkers, who died at a year and half:

 

William Hugo Blackstone, (b. September 28, 1867; d. December 27, 1949)

Jefferson Commodore Blackstone (b. October 12, 1869; d. March 25, 1945)

James Thomas (Tommy) Blackstone (b. May 17, 1871; d. February 14, 1958) married 1)  Louella Ada Baird (b. November 20, 1868) in Upshur County, Texas on November 19, 1893. 

Phillip Goode Blackstone (b. June 22, 1873; d. February 24, 1945).

John Henry Alvin Blackstone (b. April 25, 1875; d. February 28, 1955).

Nancy Dinkens (b. March 9, 1878; d. September 22, 1879).
