  CHIVELSTONE is a parish and village in Kingsbridge union, containing, by the census of 1861, 523 inhabitants and 2806 acres; in the deanery of Woodleigh, archdeaconry of Totnes, diocese of Exeter, hundred of Coleridge, East Devonshire; 7 miles south-east from Kingsbridge. The vicarage, which is annexed with the curacy of Sherford to the vicarage of Stokenham, is in the incumbency of the Rev. John Charles CARWITHEN, M.A., and the patronage of the Crown; joint annual value, £695, with residence. The church is an ancient edifice, dedicated to St Sylvester, with tower and five bells. The pulpit is formed out of a block of wood; there is also a splendid carved oak screen. - NEWMAN, Esq. is lord of the manor

  FORD is a hamlet of this parish, in which the Baptists have a place of worship, which was endowed with £4 per annum by Andrew JEFFERY.

  PRAWLE is a another hamlet, at which there is a Coast Guard Station. The greater portion of the soil is the property of the Rev. Marcus D. CHURCHWARD.

SOUTH ALLINGTON is also a hamlet of this parish.
