Saint Giles-on-the Heath Transcribed from - Morris and Co.'s Commercial Directory and Gazetteer. 1870 Please notify me of any errors..Contact.  Transcribed by Val HENDERSON Unchecked Page 861     SAINT GILES-ON-THE-HEATH is a village and parish in Launceston union, containing, by the census of 1861, 342 inhabitants, and 3044 acres; in the deanery of Trigge Major, archdeaconry of Cornwall, diocese of Exeter, hundred of Black Torrington, South Devonshire; 5 miles north from Launceston, and 9 miles south from Holsworthy. The vicarage is a donative, in the incumbancy of the Rev. Charles Hellens Taylor, M.A., valued at £101 per annum, and in the joint patronage of the Earl of Mount-Edgcumbe and the Marquis of Lothian, as trustees of Hele's Charity, who are also impropriators of the rectorial tithes, which were commuted at £129 8s. 8d. per annum. The church is an ancient edifice, dedicated to St. Giles, consisting of nave, chancel, and south aisles, with tower and five bells. The Duke of Bedford and Lady Molesworth are chief owners of the soil. The poor have a small charitable bequest producing 13s. per annum. Clergy. Taylor Rev.
