Transcribed by Val HENDERSON Checked by -- Unchecked Page 888 WOODLEIGH is a village and parish in Kingsbride union, containing, by the census of 1861,213 inhabitants, and 2319 acres; in the deanery to which it gives its name, archdeaconry of Totnes, dicese of Exeter, hundred of Stanborough, East Devonshire; 3½ miles north-east from Kingsbridge. The rectory, in the incumbancy of the Rev. George Dawson, M.A., is valued at £340 per annum, with residence and 85A. 2R. 6P. of glebe land, and is in the patronage of Exeter College, Oxford. The church is an ancient edifice, dedicated to St. Mary, cosisting of nave, chancel, and tower with three bells. The poor have £1 15s. annually divided amongst them, arising from a rentcharge out of land at Lowerdale.
