GENERATION 7

"Following passage of the Northwest Ordinance in 1787, people from the eastern states, including Anglo-Americans and Afro-Americans, began to move into the Ohio Country." Elisha W. Viers and his brother Brice W. Viers were some of those very early pioneers to Island Creek Twp. and Steubenville, Jefferson County, Ohio several years before Ohio became a state and before Jefferson County was formed. Elisha W. Viers came with a group of settlers to Island Creek Twp. His brother, Brice W. Viers owned land in Ohio County, (West) Virginia and he moved aross the Ohio river and helped with the lay out and development of Steubenville, Ohio.

51. ELISHA W. VIERS
BORN: 1766-1770 (The inscription on the tombstone shows 83 YRS at time of death on 9 May 1851, and the 1850 census shows him to be 80 years of age; and, the Frederick County, Maryland Rock Creek One Hundred census taken in 1776, shows his age as 10 years old. Looking at these various dates and using subtraction, Elisha W. Viers could have been born anywhere from 1766-1770. Church christening and baptismal records are being sought to try to confirm his actual age). PLACE: Frederick County, Maryland)
