Zebediah WARD II was born Dec 1755 in Essex County, New Jersey. It is believed that his parents are Zebediah and Selvester ZANDERSON WARD. According to DAR records, Zebediah was a patriot during the Revolutionary War, serving as a sergeant with New Jersey forces.

He was first married about 1776 to Sarah ZELUFF, who was born ca. 1759 in Staten Island, Richmond County, New York. Zebediah's children by Sarah ZELUFF were: Hannah, David, Zebediah III, Phoebe and Peter Z.

By 1820 Zebediah had moved his family to Lawrenceberg, Dearborn County, Indiana. Zebediah filed a Land Patent for a 40-acre tract in Ripley County, Indiana on 1 August 1833 at Jeffersonville, Indiana.

On 16 July 1828 in Harrison County, Indiana he married Harriet JONES, born ca 1804 in Ohio to Stephen JONES. Zebediah, his son, Peter, with their families relocated to Clark County, Indiana. Harriet WARD filed a Land Patent at Jeffersonville on 8 October 1834 for a section of land in Clark County, Indiana.

Zebediah's children by Harriet JONES were: Sylvester, Mary Jane and Stephen Benjamin, all born after Zebediah was past the age of 70.

Zebediah's will was proved on 14 Nov 1836. In addition to naming Zebediah's grown children by Sarah Zeluff and bequeathing them each one dollar, it provided land for his son, Sylvester, and a cow and feather bed for his daughter, Mary Jane. His wife, Harriet, was Executor of the will. It is not known if a subsequent will was written, voiding this one, and providing for his son Stephen, born in 1835. (Will located by J. Anderson.) DAR records give Zebediah's death date as 10 Jan 1837 in Clark County, Indiana. Acknowledged as one of the Revolutionary War Soldiers of Clark County, Indiana, he is reported to be buried in that county, but the location of his grave is not known.

A widow at age 30, Harriet remarried on 18 April 1838 in Clark County to Louis FRANCONI, a Swiss immigrant. Harriet JONES children by Lewis FRANCONI were: Alonzo, Emeline, and Charles.

In 1838 and 1839 Lewis FRANCONI filed 3 separate land patents in Clark County at Jeffersonville under the name of Lewis FRANCONY. Two were for tracts in Clark County, and one in Floyd County.

The FRANCONYs lived in Clark County as late as 1845, when Charles was born, but by 1850 Lewis was living in Lafayette, Floyd County, where he is enumerated in the 1850 census with Harriet and his three children. Harriet is enumerated a second time in Wood Township, Clark County with her six children, but not Lewis. This seems to support the family oral tradition that Lewis left Harriet about 1850. It is believed that Louis made his way to New Orleans, where he gambled away his family's assets, causing Harriet to seek sworn affidavits proving her marriage to Zebediah and inheritance from him.

Buried in Merrill-Ward Cemetery, Clark County, Indiana. He was a farmer. About 1821 Peter first married Rhoda PATE, daughter of Jeremiah PATE, in Dearborn County, Indiana. On 17 Jun 1865 Peter third married Elizabeth SINEX, in New Albany, Floyd County, Indiana. She was born ca 1796 in New Jersey.

Peter Z. Ward served during the War of 1812, enlisting in the New York Militia on 10 Jun 1814. He was assigned to Captain John Stewart's company in Colonel Wadsworth's Regiment, Captain Sterretts & Freeman Co, NY Militia. Peter was discharged 20 Sep 1814.

In 1900 Samuel is listed as father-in-law in the home of Marcellus F. and Mary E. Rossicoe of Knox County, Indiana. Whether Mary is his daughter, Eveline, is not positively known. A marriage record for Marcellus Rossicoe to a Mary E. Blades is found in the Indiana Marriage Index 1845-1920. In 1910 Samuel reports marrying 3 or 5 times. After April 1900 Samuel C. married Roda [--?--]. She was born circa 1844 in Indiana.

Olivia Jane WARD. (William Simpson, Peter Z. Sr., Zebediah II) Born on 29 Oct 1852 in Clark County, Indiana. Olivia Jane died on 19 Oct 1948, she was 95. On 25 Dec 1870, when Olivia was 18, she married Andrew Jackson "A.J." ADKINS in Clark County, Indiana. He was born ca 1850 in Indiana. By 1877 they had moved to Texas. They had three children.

In 1910 she was employed as a seamstress in a pant factory. About 1910 when Clova Ann was 25, she married Wirt HUFF. Born on 20 Feb 1872 in Indiana, Wirt died in Los Angeles County, California on 8 May 1956, he was 84. No known children.

James Henry "Harry" CARSON. (Ardelia T., Peter Z. Jr., Peter Z. Sr., Zebediah II) . Born on 7 Sep 1876 in Indiana, Harry died in Terre Haute, Vigo County, Indiana on 2 Aug 1943; he was 66. Buried in Highland Lawn Cemetery, Terre Haute, Vigo County, Indiana. About 1901 when Harry was 24, he married Nellie Frances JOHNSON, daughter of Francis JOHNSON & Lydia Eliza Rhoda Flora TOMKINS, in Chicago, Cook County, Illinois. Stephen Benhamin WARD. (Zebediah II) Born ca 1835 in Indiana, Stephen died in Cairo, Alexander County, Illinois on 12 Nov 1925. On 20 May 1858 Stephen married Susan ALDRIDGE in Floyd County, Indiana. Born ca 1835 in Indiana, Susan died before 1920. Stephen may have served as a private with the 66 Illinois Infantry during the Civil War. He had moved his family between Mississippi and Illinois, operating a house painting business with his sons. By 1910 the family had settled permanently in Cairo, Illinois. Stephen and Susan had four children.

Buried in Forest Hill Cemetery, Piqua, Miami County, Ohio. He was a railroad laborer and a carpenter. Alonzo served as a private in Company I, 23rd Indiana Infantry during the Civil War, enlisting 27 July 1861 and mustering out 28 July 1864. A pension application was filed by his widow, Sarah Francony in Ohio. Sometime before 1879 Alonzo moved his family to Miami County, Ohio. About 1877 Alonzo married Sarah MAXWELL. Born in Jul 1859 in Kentucky, Sarah died on 14 Nov, year unknown. They had the following children:
