BRUNNER, BRUNER
Ernst L. Ertel (born 1858) had a half-brother (probably on his mother's side), Fred Brunner, who settled in Dayton OH USA. No other Ertel siblings are known.
Who was Fred Brunner?
Per Family Search:
* Friedrich Wilhelm Brunner
b 22 Oct 1864 Egringen, Loerrach, Baden
to Jacob Friedrich Brunner
and Marie Elisabethe Ruenzi
Because of the birthdate 6 years after Ernst's and different middle name of his mother, this is not likely Ernst's half brother Fred.

* Friedrich Ernst Brunner of Weil Am Rhein, Loerrach, Baden, only lived 5 days (1857)

ERTEL
FamilySearch.org and Family Search-Record Search state that Ernst Ludwig Ertel married Wilhelmine Kuebler on 11 August 1881 at Evangelisch, Brombach, Loerrach (map), Baden, Germany.

Ernst's 1881 marriage license, per Family Search-Record Search, says Ernst's parents were Martin and Maria Katharina Brunner Ertel.

KUEBLER (Kübler, Kubler, Kibler, Gable)

That site also shows that Luise Kuebler, was born to Johann Jakob and Jakobina (Weber) Kuebler, and christened on 08 APR 1855 at Steinen, Loerrach, Baden. Luise Kuebler married Johann Friedrich Boehler on 22 May 1877 at Evangelisch, Brombach, Loerrach, Baden, verifying Bill Kenney's record that she married Friedrich BOEHLER.

Rather than Wilhelmine Kuebler (1864-1938), our Wilhelmina is listed at FamilySearch as Mine Kubler, whose christening was 11 SEP 1859 at Evangelisch, Loerrach, Loerrach, Baden, born to Johann Jacob Kuebler and Jacobine Weber.

There was a Maria Kuebler christened 29 December 1857 in Steinen, Loerrach, Baden, born to Johannes and Maria Elisabetha Schaubhut.

Dieter Ertle, and others at the Community-Solingen.de discussion group, explain about the names ERTLE or ERTEL. The first spelling is the Swabian variant and the second the Bavarian variant of a common south German name which describes a small-holder. The 30 Years War in 17th century Europe drove them from their original home around the Bodensee (at the German-Swiss frontier) and into Elsass/Alsatia/Alsace (today a part of France).

Information on Germany
The state of Baden joined the German Empire in 1871. Baden was across the Rhine from Alsace, France
Today the state is called Baden-Württenberg
The Kuebler family lived in the Lorrach district, bordering France to the west, and Switzerland to the south. This seems to agree with stories of Wilhelmina Kuebler Ertel working in Switzerland. Her parents lived in Steinen as well as in Brombach.
