Jacob and Fanny (George) Johnson
of Greenbrier Co, WV and Butler Co, OH

Little is known about Jacob Johnson, except that he married Fanny George in 1818 in Butler County, Ohio, and had 5 children.

Fannie George Johnson was born October 5, 1798 in what is now West Virginia, the eldest of Ann (Handley) and Reuben George's children. The George family and some of Ann's Handley siblings moved to Butler County, OH about 1812 when Fannie was a young teenager. Fannie's George grandparents are yet unknown. Her Handley grandparents were Archibald and Jean (HENDERSON) HANDLEY of Greenbrier County, WV (now Monroe Co WV). Fanny had a niece, Fanny George Colburn, daughter of Enoch George of Andrew County, MO. Eldest daughters were sometimes named after the father's mother.

Other George families living in Greenbrier County, WV may have been relatives, and this may be later clarified by DNA tests through the George Surname Project. On the Surname GEORGE Study Test Results page, Reuben George 1776 is listed. Also see George Immigrants.

In Butler County, OH, Fanny was the eldest sibling of 6 full brothers and sisters, and half sister to Isaac and Mary "Polly" GEORGE of Esther and Reuben George Sr.

The family of Eva (WALTZ) and Harry McDONALD
Franklin County, IN and Butler County, OH

Eva and Harry McDonald
George Waltz's daughter Evelyn "Eva" WALTZ (1883-1969) married Harry McDonald around 1900. Harry was born 8 February (year unknown). Harry and Eva's farm in Franklin County, IN near Drewersburg was 8 miles west of Harrison, OH.
Their only child was James Watson MacDonald, later called "Mac". (Note the change of spelling of his last name). "Mac" was born 21 July 1901. With no high school at the time in Franklin County IN, their son went to Morgan High School in Butler County, OH where he met his future wife, Lois GEORGE in Latin class. (See their class picture.) "Mac" preferred teaching over farming. When more money was needed for him to go to college, the McDonald family moved to Oxford, OH where Harry operated a dry cleaning store.

Both Lois and Mac attended Otterbein College in Westerville, OH, which was a family tradition for Lois George's family. But Mac transferred back to Oxford and graduated from Miami University before marrying Lois in 1922. He began teaching in one-room schools in Indiana, became the principal at Milford High School, worked for a time at the Air Force Institute of Technology at Wright-Patterson near Dayton (OH), and ultimately retired in 1967 as professor of American History at Grove City College in Grove City, PA.

Lois and Mac, who had no children, were distant cousins: Mac's 3-great-grandmother, Fannie George Johnson and Lois's great-grandfather, Joshua George, were sister and brother. Lois died of muscular dystrophy in 1967 in Grove City, PA soon after Mac had retired. Mac lived in North Carolina for several years with his pug dog, Sir Winston, then moved to Dayton Ohio, and finally to Eaton, Ohio. He died September 25, 1994, ( his obituary is on-line), and was buried at the Oxford Cemetery.
