* Williams, AZ (north of Phoenix, south entrance to the Grand Canyon)(southern Arizona) Tucson abounds in Bed and Breakfast choices, and also offers the Canyon Ranch Health Resort northeast of town. Besides health and healing workshops plus spa and sport services, all meals are included and a courtesy car is available. While in Tucson, see the Organ Pipe Cactus National Monument Park and the Arizona-Sonoran Desert Museum, where animals live in their natural botanical garden setting. Where else to stay* Sedona, AZ (central Arizona) Local residents think the Red Rocks State Park around Sedona is more impressive than the Grand Canyon. Try the Pink Jeep tour, and have a buffalo steak at the Cowboy Club restaurant. There are many Bed and Breakfasts here, including the Apple Orchard Inn, offering great views of Red Rock and Oak Creek Canyon. Shops and galleries, hot air ballooning, hiking, jeep tours, and horseback riding are all nearby. Be home by 3 pm for signature chocolate chip cookies. If you prefer a desert resort, the 4 Star, 4 Diamond Enchantment Resort has many amenities. Where else to stay
* Scottsdale and
Phoenix While in the Phoenix and Scottsdale area, drive the 80 mile Apache Trail circle (Rts 60-188-88). Not only is this day trip off the beaten path, parts of it ARE the beaten path, with a third of it on unpaved hairpin turns through the beauty of the Tonto National Forest. For American Indian art and culture, visit the Heard Museum in Phoenix. South Mountain Park is the largest in-city park in the USA. Walk or run up the Piestawa (or Squaw) Peak. * Arizona Dude or Guest Ranches in Oracle: C.O.D. Ranch - horseback riding, stagecoach rides, mountain biking, cowboy cookouts, bird watching, hiking, horseshoes |
