This recipe was one of my favorites that my grandmother used to make. This page is dedicated to Hulda Mae Bollheimer Ayers.
1-1/2 cups sugar
1/2 cup margarine or butter
3/4 cup flour
1/2 cup milk
2-1/2 to 3 cups puffed wheat
2/3 cup peanut butter (with chunky, leave out optional nuts)
1/2 cup chopped walnuts (optional)
1/2 cup coconut (optional)
1 teaspoon vanilla
1/4 teaspoon salt
In a sauce pan, combine sugar, butter, flour, and milk. Bring to a boil for 3 minutes, stirring constantly. Remove from heat. Add remaining ingredients. Drop by teaspoon on to waxed paper. Cool. Makes 60. Note: Don't be alarmed if mixture turns caramel-colored when heated.
