Morgan family Ancestry
James Morgan was a tailor by trade. My Aunt Doreen corrected me - he was a Bespoke Tailor.
I understand that this meant that he had certain "well to do" customers who would employ him to provide his services on occasions such as weddings when he would travel to their homes and stay there to fit the family.
This could explain why he does not seem to be in Neath for either the `81 0r `91 Census. One child was born in Cheltenham.
I have found him in the 1851 Census with his parents william & Elenor. I have also found a wedding for William Morgan & Elenor Bidder in Llanelly in 1834. It seems that this must be William`s second wife and that the first child is not by Elenor.
James` children settled in the Neath area and there are many descendents. One brother Robert is said to have moved to the Rhondda. William J. Morgan lived in Tonna and his daughter Alice was well known to my sister. he also had three sons who have descendents still in the village.
As a boy my father`s cousin Dai Jones (known as Uncle Shim) the son of Mary Ann often visited Glen Road.
