General Notes: Please know, Mary's adoption is recorded and memoralized in letters she wrote to the Children's home of Cook County...including one from them to Steffa's dated a month after her birth in 1892

please add to your website about my grandmother, Irene Steffa, born 09/18/1892 and recorded in Childrens home under register 1541 as her birth name, ALICE SMITH....
Mother on birth certificate is Minnie Smith nee: Wilson age 23, and father is Allen Smith....age 24....birth certificate confirms this was her 2nd birth.
Rev. Van Arnsdale wrote to my great grandparents, Josiah Steffa, on 12/01/1892 to advise them she had a brother, record # 1521, received 08/25/1892.....
A letter from Childrens home dated 12/11/1950 did reveal that the "older brother" was adopted by a H.J. Ford of Ladelle, SD and renamed William Earl Ford.
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. I know the clues are out there,
