KIN BURIED IN THE CUMBERLAND PRESBYTERIAN CEMETERY

The Cumberland Presbyterian Cemetery is located at Midway, Greene Co., Tennessee and south of Tusculum. The church building is gone but a small cemetery is still in good shape. There is a monument erected in memory of the Midway boys who served in World War II across the road from the cemetery. Julia Kate Brabson and her family are buried here. Julia Kate was the daughter of Dr. Alexander Washington Brabson and his wife Emily Stephens Brabson. Julia or "Kate" as she was called shares a tombstone with her daughter Georgie with Georgie's husband next to Julia and Kate. There are lots of Harmons buried here as well. Warner Washington Haws was born November 22, 1844 and died February 22, 1881 the son of James and Mary Haws. He is probably buried with the Haws family

  • In 1843 a Cumberland Presbyterian congregation was organized by Rev. Isaac. S. Bonham, with Thomas Lane, Lewis S. Self, Thomas Davis and two or three others as elders. The membership was small, but they succeeded in erecting a small frame house in the southwest part of the town, where they continued to worship until 1860. In that year, under the ministry of Rev. John P. Holt, the present large brick building at the corner of Church and Main Streets was begun, but was not completed until after the close of the war. The present membership of the church is about 100. Source: Goodspeed

The Bank of Greeneville was established in 1887 by Judge Hacker & Bro. and John Brabson. John being a cousin to Julia Kate Brabson Haws
