HISTORY OF THE INGERSOLLS OF LEE, MASSACHUSETTS

So glad I got to Lee, Massachusetts and discovered my lineage of Great Great Grandfather Moses Ingersoll, III and still wondering why he made the move to East Tennessee? I think he was into some kind of manufacturing business such as furniture making or ??? David & Samantha Bassett Ingersoll (cousins through both Ingersoll and Bassett) were making the move to Oberlin, Ohio and later their son H.H. Ingersoll made the move to Greene Co and Knox Co., Tennessee where he was a lawyer and judge ; his daughter Mabel married Oliver Ingersoll, paint mfg and lived in Brooklyn, New York

Lee, Massachusetts is located in the Northwest corner of Massachusetts. If you follow the Housatonic River south you will be in Great Barrington, Massachusetts where the early Ingersoll family also lived. Just a short distance east of Lee, Massachusetts is Westfield, Massachusetts where the progenitor, John Ingersoll lived and is buried. To the east of Westfield is Springfield where the Ingersolls also lived before making their way westward. Our JOHN Ingersoll and his brother RICHARD Ingersoll landed in Salem, Massachusetts where Richard raised his family and after his death John moved to Springfield and on to Westfield where he is buried in the Old Burying Ground Cemetery. Later generations made their way west to Great Barrington and Lee, Massachusetts
