He married Eliza Nevers,probably Margaret Eliza, daughter of Alexander and Millicent (Peters)Nevers. About 1870 they moved from Rockland to Houlton, and on to NewLimerick, Aroostook County. One son drove the cattle all the way. They had 8 children by this marriage. When Sarah (Purdy) Estabrooks,Nehemiah's mother, died, her obituary said she came from Brighton in1823. Six years later, 8 Sep 1829, Nehemiah's father, David Estabrooks,was granted Lot 7, 256 acres, at Rockland in the Parish of Brighton,Carleton County, New Brunswick. Nehemiah was born there. Later he wasmarried there, and all their children were born there. About 1870 they moved from Rockland, Carleton County New Brunswick toHoulton, Maine and on to New Limerick, Aroostook County, Maine. One sondrove the cattle all the way. The New Brunswick Census of 1861, Parish of Brighton, Carleton County(PANB, microfilm F1594), page 52, shows: Nehemiah Estabrooks, 35, native,farmer; Margaret E., 33, wife; Milison, 10; David, 8; Hannah E., 11 Mos. The following obituary (newspaper clipping, name of paper and dateunknown) was contributed by Louella Ryan, Island Falls, Maine: Died, at the home of his son Charles, in Linneus on Dec. 5th, NehemiahEstabrooks. After eating supper with the family, he appeared as well asusual and retired early. The family thought him quietly sleeping, untila little later Charles went in and found he had fallen asleep in Jesus.Our brother lived to a good old age, being 87 years, six months old. Hewas born in Rockland, New Brunswick, June 25th, 1826. He joined the FWBchurch in that place when young. In Oct. 1875, he moved to New Limerick,Maine, and the following spring to Linneus, where he spent the remainderof his days. He joined the New Limerick church, where he held membershipuntil his death. In his death, the New Limerick church loses its oldestmember. When he was 24 years of age, he was united in marriage to MissEliza Nevers. She died May 23, 1882. Of that union there were 12children born, four dying in early childhood, one daughter, a Mrs. Noble,in 1882. Seven survived him, David, Cohasset, Maine; Charles, Linneus,Maine; Fred, Mars Hill; Mrs. Harden Estabrooks, Charleston, Maine; Mrs.Charles McKenzie and Miss Annie of Island Falls; and Nevers of Linneus.Besides these, fifteen grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren areleft to miss him in the home. The large attendance at the funeral, whichwas held at the New Limerick church, showed the high esteem in which ourbrother was held. Appropriate music was rendered by a quartet composedof G.A. Bates and wife, J. Cambell and wife. Services were conducted byRev. F.A. Miller, assisted by Rev. C.W. Wheeler, who also sang abeautiful solo. Rev. F.A. Miller. Estabrooks will be sorry to know that he passedaway at the Madigan Memorial Hospital on Monday last week, after anillness of several weeks. The funeral was held from the home of NorrisC, Estabrooks, Kelleran Street, on Wednesday afternoon at 12:30 and theremains were taken to Hodgdon for internment in the family lot in thattown, Mr. Estabrooks leaves a widow and three children and his age was37 years. He also leaves five brothers: Frank C. Estabrooks of Linneus,Weyman Estabrooks of Dryer Brook, Roland, George and Wilbert of Oakfield,and two sisters, Mrs. Bert Kelso of Island Falls and Mrs. Weldon Ramseyof Benton, Maine, besides many friends throughout the state.
