Note*: Mary Belle 'Belle' Baxter was born March 28, 1864 in Savannah, Missouri,where the family lived during the Civil War. She died August 28, 1944,at age 80, at Buffalo, Wyoming. She was buried by her husband in thefamily plot at the Hulett Cemetery. Belle taught school till shemarried. In the early days of the stage line from Spearfish, SouthDakota to Miles City, Montana, the Riverdale Ranch was a stage stop.Belle's ancestor, Hamon Massey, was listed in the Domesday Book (a recordof the survey of the land of England made by William the Conqueror about1086 - giving ownership extent and value of property). Hamo de Mascicame to England from Macey, La Mauche, Normandy at the time of Williamthe Conqueror in 1066. He is listed in the Falaise Roll as a companionof William the Conqueror. His name was anglicized to Hamon Massey. Hebecame Baron of Dunham Massey of Cheshire. Hamon Massey was one of thepalatinate barons. A descendant, Peter Massey, patented land in New KentCounty, Virginia in 1682. We (Earl Willson and Lois Willson Waugh) aredescendants from this branch of the family.
