He was first elected to the House of Assembly of New Brunswick as one of the members for Queens County, at the G.E. of June, 1882, with Thomas Hetherington, Esq. as colleague. He was re-elected at the G.E.'s of April 26, 1886, and January 1890, and sat as member until the dissolution of the Legislature in 1892, when he retired from active political life. At the Session of 1886, he was chosen Deputy Speaker of the House. He died, November 14th, 1894, at his residence, Hampstead, New Brunswick, aged fifty-three years. He is buried in the Palmer Family Burying Ground, Central Hampstead. Survived by his widow and one son. Mrs. Palmer married a second time, to a Mr. Heffer, Sussex, N.B. She died in 1932, aged eighty-nine years. In Politics: Liberal. In Religion: a Baptist. Name-Com: Allan Palmer Birth*: 21 November 1899 Note*: Allan Walker (1899-1957), married Helen S. Bell of Alberton P.E.I. and resided at Freeland, Tyne Valley and Summerside P.E.I. Allan was a self-taught electrical and mechanical engineer. He was one of the first on P.E.I. to build a radio receiving set and he had the first radio in Lot 11. He also connected a private telephone between his home and the family store at Freeland. About 1923 he established the first car garage for maintenance and repair, in lot 11 and afterwards moved to Tyne valley where he operated a garage for several years. After he left Tyne valley he operated the Dunk River hydroelectric plant before finally settling in Summerside where he established a plumbing business known as Palmer and Williams Ltd, in 1941. The company completed many plumbing and electrical contracts at the Mount Pleasant and Summerside airports during World War II, and later constructed a number of harbour duty boats for the Federal Dept. of National Defense. Allan later entered the real estate business and constructed several modern apartment buildings, in particular the spacious and well-known Palmer Apartment Building in the Brighton area of Charlottetown P.E.I.
