Susannah Seaman Note*: Susanah Seaman was born in New England about 1770, and probably came tothe Saint John River with the Loyalist refugees in 1783. Oliver, son of Nicholas and Sarah (Oliver) Rideout was born atMaugerville about 1767. Church records show that he married, atMaugerville, Nov. 17, 1794, Susannah Seaman. Deeds suggest that Oliver and Susannah were living in Maugerville in1821, and in Wakefield, Carleton County by 1826. It is therefore likelythey arrived some time between those dates, at which time Oliver wouldhave been at least 54 years of age. Deeds also show that both Oliver and Susannah Rideout were living in1842, and that Oliver had died before 1846. It is thought that Susannahprobably predeceased him, and that he may have married a second time.Does anyone know their death dates, and where they were buried? Theyapparently lived at Somerville, somewhere in the neighbourhood of werethe Peoples Church now stands (about a half mile below the coveredbride). Was Lucretia Rideout, age 60, shown in the 1851 Census in theParish of Wakefield, Oliver's widow by a second marriage? Oliver and Susannah (Seaman) Rideout had 13 children, probably all bornat Maugerville. But it appears they all came with their parents toCarleton County, at which time the eldest was probably about 27 to 30years of age. Dear Don, Here is what I have on Prudence Rideout's family. OLIVER RIDEOUT, s/o Nicholas Rideout & Sarah (Oliver) (1)(2) b. c1767(1), Maugerville, Sunbury Co., N.B. d aft 1842, Carleton County,N.B. m. 17 Nov 1794, Maugerville, Sunbury Co., N.B. (3) SUSANNAH SEAMAN, d/o (3) b. c1770, d. Oliver and Susannah Rideout were living in Maugerville in 1821, butprobably removed to Carleton Co., N.B., shortly thereafter (2). They atone time owned lots 33 and 34 at Somerville, in the Pariah of Wakefield, opposite the Town of Hartland. Did Oliver marry a second time? In 1844, Oliver and Lucretia Rideoutdeeded land in Carleton Co. to Isaac Rideout. Was this the same Oliver? And the 1851 census for the Parish of Wakefield shows Lucretia Rideout, widow, 60, apparently living by herself. Who was she?
