Among the first of the Pre-Loyalist families from Maugerville andelsewhere began to appear was Abner Brooks, who had come from Brookfield,Massachusetts, to Colchester County, Nova Scotia, and from there to theSt. John River. Abner Brooks and his wife and eleven children had been onthe list of those whom two months provision had been granted in 1784.Tamerlaine Campbell, Benen Foster, and several sons of Elijah Estabrooksand Archelaus Hammond, all on that list, also moved up river.
