  William Fanshaw was also known as William Fancy.  “Fancy” was a colonial spelling variant of the Fanshaw surname.
   He was in the New Haven Colony 1643, and was one of the original proprietors of Setauket, Brookhaven, Suffolk Co.,
   New York  in 1661. Additional Information.

         3.       WILLIAM2 FANSHAW (WILLIAM1)  He married ABIGAIL.   

    William Fanshaw was also known as William Fancy, Jr. “Fancy” was a colonial spelling variant of the Fanshaw surname.
    “Fancher” was also a colonial spelling variant of Fanshaw.   Abigail may have been his second wife. It is believed that
     Abigail  was the mother of Richard, John and Joseph Fancher, and probably David Fancher's mother as well.  The naming
     patterns of  their children may suggest the possibility that Catherine, William and Hannah Fancher had a different mother.

     William was probably born in either Southold or Setauket in Suffolk Co., New York. Additional Information.
