My name is Peggy Gardner Sturdivant. Mary and Jasper were my gg

Gardner) father. Unfortunately their son, Clarence was killed in 1922 at the
age of 35. Would like to talk with you about family.
Thanks for your time and nice website
Peggy

Subject: Children of Clarence and Martha Gardner, son of Jasper and Mary Frances Gardner
Hello Again,
Hope you're not tired of reading my emails....just doing some catching up.
Herbert D. Gardner (I had earlier thought the middle intial was "C") "Danksie" born August 4, 1909 and died May 29,1996 at the Hilltop Nursing Home in Owingsville, Bath county KY. This is according to his death certificate #14699. He was never married. His occupation was listed as Sawmill Operator. His parents are listed as Clarence Gardner and Martha Stephens. The informant's name is Sander THompson ( I believe this is Opal's youngest daughter) Herbert is buried in the Long View Cemetery, Bethel KY.
Also Harlen married Sadie Purvis, appears to be March 21, 1922. Harlen's age 41 and Sadie's age 22.
Also the daughter of Clarence and Martha Gardner, Opal Alice Gardner Williams was born 2/27/1922 and died Dec 28, 1986 at the Fleming County Hospital from acute myocardial infraction? due to coronary artery disease. This is according to her death certificate #86 33157. Her father is listed as Clarence Gardner and mother as Martha Stephesn..(Stephens). The informant is listed as Barbara Glass (daughter). Burial is Longview Cemetery in Bethel KY.
Opal married Dennie Williams............date unknown at this time. They had 2 children that I know of ......Barbara and Sandra. Sandy was one year ahead of me in Fleming county High School I think ......might have been the same grade I can't remember.
The only other item that I have right now is Walter Gardner, Clarence's younger brother, married miss Martha Riddle........can't remember the date have it somewhere....... this is her death certificate information...I can't seem to find his. Mrs Martha Gardner certificate # 27456. Born Feb 24, 1888 and died Oct 27, 1934 of cancer of the Breast. Married to Walter Gardner. Her father is listed as Harison Riddle born Fleming county ky and mother listed as Rachel ?Croffer born Lewis county ky. Informant Walter Gardner of Plummers Landing KY.

Hello Darrell
Harlan and James Russel's mother's maiden name is Stephens. The marriage
certificate is on file at the Bath County courthouse in Bath County KY.
Clarence and Martha Gardner are both buried in the Hillsboro Cemetery on
Sunset Rd in Hillsboro, Fleming county KY. Unforunately Clarence's grave is at
this time unmarked (I am trying to do something about this) and Martha's is
marked by a very small stone (one you can hold in your hand) and is hidden under some flowers. Location is by the fence on the right side of the cemetery. The trial transcript that concerns the murder of Clarence is on file at the
Fleming County Courthouse and I have that docket number somewhere. I have been there and read the transcript of both trials concerning his death.
William Helphenstine was convicted of murder and sentenced to 8 yrs during
the first trial. The second trial was granted by the court of appeals due to
the dying testimony of Clarence himself because in his testimony he states his
opinion as to why Mr. Helphenstine shot him which was ruled inadmissable and a new trial was granted. Mr. Helphenstine was convicted of murder and sentenced to 12 yrs at the second trial.
Harlan and his wife Sadie and James Russel and his wife Katherine are buried
in the same cemetery in Hillsboro, KY. Along with James Russel and
Katherine's children, James Darnell and Kenneth Earl Gardner.
According to the cemetery records of Fleming County at the Fleming county
Library Jasper is buried in the Flemingsburg Cemetery. The grave is labled J.M.
Gardner.
Just thought you might like to know.
My father Robert still resides in Fleming County KY not far from Owingsville.
My father and myself are the only Gardner's left in KY from James Russel and
Katherine (Ishmael) Gardner.
I believe Harlan may still have children living in KY. Last I heard his son
Paul was in Fleming County and his daughter Bertha was in Bourbon County KY.
Myself I am in Harrison County.
If you have any questions feel free to contact me. Attached is a pic of my
dad in the 4th grade, he was in the Hillsboro Elementary School.
