Hi Darrell,
Last fall or winter I sent you some info on the Garvins. Today I was in gendex looking. I came across your posting. You have Sophia Thompson as the spouse of Johnson Garvin. Sophia was married to James Garvin. I know how easy it is for a typo. Let me see if I can go into some detail without getting up the old creek.
Some times in the Carter Co. area of where the Garvins lived, they talk of three Johnson Garvins. The truth of the matter is there was one Johnston Garvin that's with a "t", and two Johnson Garvins.
Johnston Garvin b. abt 1787 married Hannah Rice 16 Jan 1808 in Fleming
Co., Ky.
They had a son James Garvin b. 30 Jan 1816, d. 21 Apr 1864 from wounds
received in battle, he was on his way home to recover at the time of his death. He died at a place called Cooks Furnace, he had just about made it home. James Garvin married Sophia Thompson 19 Sep 1839. Sophia Thompson b.2 Nov. 1818, d. 19 Feb. 1895. She is buried on the family farm near Prater. James and Sophia are the parents of Johnson Noble Garvin.
Johnston Garvin married a second time to Elizabeth Garrett 6 Mar 1828 in
Greenup Co. and the had a son Johnson who married an Amanda I do not know her last name.
I know that Eliza is often used in place of Elizabeth. But on all family records that I have looked at Sara Elzia Henderson Garvin is Eliza and
that is what's on her head stone I wished that I had as much info on the Thompson side of the family as I have on the Garvin side. I can't find any family records.
Do you know any of the folk lore on Robert Henderson's wife Sarah ?
Thanks for putting up with me.
John Hudson

Subject: [KYCARTER] Amaza Henderson & Jasper Tabor
Am looking for info regarding Amaza Henderson Lewis. Am trying to find out if she had a daughter by the name of Martha Henderson who married Jasper Tabor of Olive Hill Ky. Jasper was my Great Grandfather. His daughter Ethel was my grandmother. Am not sure Martha was the correct name of my great grandmother. My father has always told us that his grandmother was a Cherokee Indian and her last name was Henderson; however, Mom said it was his great grandmother who was the Henderson and was a Cherokee. Can anyone help me find the facts about this. I'm curious about Amaza because she fits the criteria, because she is an
Indian and she was a Henderson. My Uncle Cotton had a picture of my Indian GGrandmother, but she was an old lady by then. Does anyone have any info on Amaza or the Tabors of Olive Hill, KY?
Thank you.

To go one step farther. It was Martha's brother Robert Jasper Henderson Jr. who married Elizabeth Bear who was an Indian.

Does this picture look anything like the one you have. This is Elizabeth Phoeba Bear. If memory serves me right Amaza was a nick name or a middle name of one of the girls and I am going to have to do some digging to figure it out. The cob webs are a flying.

Hey Darrell,
The one we have is of an older Indian Lady--probably in her late 60's or early 70's with a hat on. She looks like she could walk thru you. Am going home to Ky on Wednesday and will be copying a lot of these. Hopefully will be able to copy her picture and send to you next week. My cousin Sharon Sue has it and she is flying in from Texas. Good luck on your search. It's driving me nuts that no one seems to know her name. Dad used to know but has forgotten. Have a good Thanksgiving.
Sue
