Zenner's in the Louisiana Census
LSU Library Census Guide
The Census in Louisiana is best described by LSU. There are other census records available for individual Louisiana parishes at the USGenWeb Census Project.
Census has been conducted in the following years:
1790 | 1800 | 1810 | 1820 | 1830 | 1840 | 1850 | 1860 | 1870 | 1880 | 1890 | 1900 | 1910 | 1920 | 1930
The first year that the surname Zenner appears in Louisiana is in the
year 1860 in Ward 8 of Orleans Parish. This is in the far
Northeastern corner of Orleans Parish, Louisiana, just below Elesian
Fields.
In very early Census records, the second Census of the Nation, the surname Zenner or Zehner appear in the 1800 Census in Pennsylvania. There are records earlier than 1800, however, not in the Census, that indicate the surname as early as the Revolutionary War.
On July 25, 1860 the census was conducted, E. H. Murphy was the
Assistant Marshall. There were 14 identification codes. F.
Zenher was 40 years old working as a laborer and was born in the ?Bas?
(illegable) Rhineland on line 23. He was listed as living in
house number 1791, 2639 family number. Items 4 and 6
blank. Items 10 - 13 were blank as well.
LSU indicates that the Census in 1860 began on June 1, 1860? This census is dated July 25, 1860.
Information in the 1860 Census also enumerate his family.
All were born (item 10 ) in Bas Rhine. Items 8 - 14 were blank.
Paul 9 yo
Sophie 37 yo
Henry 7 yo
Louis 5 yo
Charlotte 1 yo
There were living with a G. Fick 38 yo who was a Tlues, Flues, or Hues
? Maker? Maybe even Glue maker. I cannot discern the
handwriting. G. Fick was born in Bavaria. It is interesting
to note that in the 1860 Census in New York's, Fifth Ward, the surname
Fisk or Fick (John and Caroline both 76 yo) appeared on the same street
as Joseph 35 yo and Catharine Zenner 32 yo just one house away.
In Orleans Parish, Zenher and Fick/Fisk were housmates or boarding
togather. Caroline Fisk was listed a deaf in her old age and no
occupation was listed for her husband, John.
In the 1870 Census of Orleans Parish, Louisiana
In the Third Ward, Orleans Parish, Louisiana, on June 13, 1870, taken
by R. L. ?Briggs? (not legible ) on line 31, Louis Zenher, was 15 yo
working as a ? Baker the Census indicates that he was born in Louisiana.
Looking at the 1860 Census, ten years earlier, Louis Zehner was
born in Rhineland, and his name was spelled the same on the 1870 Census
as it was in the 1860 census, Zehner. In 1870 Census he lived in house
number 326, family number 545. Items number 11 and 12 were
checked, father and mother were of foreign birth.
In this house, according to the census, there were alot of bakers
working! There were surnames Krebs, Reisor, Mouthe, Hoffman,
Adolfe, Spiggot, Reisor, Roane, and ? Wier. Some were
apprentices, others were pastry bakers. There is a illegible word
before baker. ?Iranc, or Franc? baker. There were also a
watch repairer and a servant, the word is possibly domestic servant,
but the t is not crossed.

In the Bureau of Land Management Acadia Parish Louisiana
From URL:BLM GLO Records
A Wilhelm Zenter appears as owning land November 1, 1880 in the Southwest corner, section 22, township 7 South, range 1 West Louisiana Meridian, 155 acres and 96/100th of an acre.
According to the Acadia Parish Library, Acadia parish was not formed until October of 1886, just six years after this homestead petition. The BLM GLO records the information as being in Acadia Parish, Louisiana even while the dates of parish creation indicate that the land was actually in St. Landry Parish, Louisiana.
The area of St. Landry Parish in 1877, three years prior to the petition and nine years before the parish of Acadia was formed.
The Parish of Acadia in 1886 from St. Landry.

The Zentner search resulted in about 28 hits with viewable original records for the following Zentner's on line: Konrad Zentner Leo Zentner Joseph Zentner Jacob Zentner Jack Anton Zentner George Zentner Anton Zentner Jacob J. Zentner
From the original World War 1917 Draft Records in Canada the following documents are available:Ralph Zentner s/o Conrad Zentner Sask. Percy Zentner s/o (hers) illegible Zentner Winnipeg (physical address given) Leo Zentner s/o Anton Zentner Golden, British Columbia, farmer, next of kin Burt, North Dakota, USA Louis Zentner s/o William Zentner Langenburg, Sask. birthplace not noted Anton Konrad Zentner s/o Konrand Zentner born Odessa, Russia
It is interesting to note that most of these Zentner's were of Russian birth or so noted on their 1917 World War Registrations, with the exception of Louis Zentner. There are 35 years between the 1882 Land Grant application and the 1917 Registrations. Louis Zentner's father was listed as William. Could this be the same Wilhelm Zenter from St. Landry and Acadia Parish Louisiana owning 155 acres of land in 1880? There was even a Zentner one room school in Saskatchewan Canada near Edam and Senate.

Subject: New to list - de Blois/Zentner/Fischer/Schwarz/Seil

After reading the interesting message from Roger recently, I realize I
should have forwarded my reply to the nice welcome to the ‘Germany Passenger
List mailing list to everybody on the list. So, here it is:
Hello everybody,
I am trying to follow my Great Grandfather, Emil Egmont August de Blois, and
his family in Germany.
Here are a few details:
Egmont de Blois and Bertha Fischer were married in Koblenz July 26, 1868 and
came to the USA on the SS New York, sailing from Bremen, arriving New York
August 17, 1868. They lived in Union City, New Jersey. The father of
Egmont was Franz, born in Huckswagen. Franz was a medical doctor who
apparently moved to Koblenz and the City of Ems, following his marriage to
Anna Catharina Zentner. I am also following the Schwarz family in Koblenz
and am starting to look for the Seil family (where?). Apparently, the
Zentner, Fischer, Schwarz families were ‘sartori and ‘lanioni in Germany -
Egmont and all of his sons were in the textile business in New York. I have
been told that the family made frequent business trips from New York to
England, France and Germany.
When I began my search almost six years ago, I knew very little about these
families and even less about Germany. I have become fascinated with both.
I look forward to sharing information with others on this list.
Beth
