Mary Puella Levinia Sharpe

     Mary Puella Levinia Sharpe was born on 10 May 1876 at Iredell Co, North Carolina.¹ She was the daughter of William Paley Sharpe and Mary Ann Cloer. Mary Puella Levinia Sharpe died on 11 July 1970 at Statesville, Iredell Co, North Carolina, at age 94; Mary Puella died at her home, 419 S. Tradd Street in Statesville. She lived with her daughter, Ollie Sharpe Koon. She was listed as a domestic.² She was buried on 13 July 1970 at Oakwood Cemetery, Statesville, Iredell Co, North Carolina.²
     She appeared on the census of 25 June 1900 at Sharpesburg, Iredell Co, North Carolina; Mary Puella was living with her parents, as well as her daughter, Gracie.³ She appeared on the census of 14 January 1920 at Bethany Twp, Iredell Co, North Carolina; Puella Sharpe, 37, was living with her parents, William Paley and Mary Sharpe. Ollie, shown as Ila, is labeled a daughter of William and Mary, rather than Puella. Luther and Mettie E. (Mary Edison), are shown as their grandchildren.⁴ She appeared on the census of 8 April 1930 in the household of Grace Lee Sharpe at Statesville, Iredell Co, North Carolina; Grace Waugh, 32, was head of the household, and with her were her two daughters, Margie, 8 and Virginia, 6, as well as her mother, Mary Sharpe, 47. There is no sign of George Waugh. Mary Puella was enumerated as having married at age 18, and was widowed. Also listed were Grace's two sisters, Ollie, 25 and Eddison, 15.⁵
