Grace Lee Sharpe

     Grace Lee Sharpe was born on 22 March 1899 at Statesville, Iredell Co, North Carolina.¹ She was the daughter of Mary Puella Levinia Sharpe. Grace Lee Sharpe married George Francis Waugh, son of James IrwinErvin Waugh and Mary Elizabeth Logan, on 27 February 1918 at Statesville, Iredell Co, North Carolina; The parents of Grace were listed as Wm Paley Sharpe and Mary Sharpe, which presents a question.² Grace Lee Sharpe died on 1 August 1979 at Davis Hospital, Statesville, Iredell Co, North Carolina, at age 80; Grace passed away during a stay in Davis Hospital in Statesville. Her residence had been 228 West Front Street, Statesville, and she was retired from 30 years with the Stimpson Hosiery Mills. Arrangements were made by Nicholson Funeral Home on Front Street.¹ She was buried on 2 August 1979 at Oakwood Cemetery, Statesville, Iredell Co, North Carolina; Her funeral was held at 3:00 PM Thursday, with Rev. Ralph F. Carter, Jr. and Rev. Wendell G. davis officiating at the Nicholson Funeral Home.³
     The 1920 census shows Grace ae 22 and son William aged 3 mos living in Concord with Charles Sharpe aged 47 and his family. Grace was listed as his sister, but he was her uncle.
She appeared on the census of 8 April 1930 at Statesville, Iredell Co, North Carolina; Grace Waugh, 32, was head of the household, and with her were her two daughters, Margie, 8 and Virginia, 6, as well as her mother, Mary Sharpe, 47. There is no sign of George Waugh. Mary Puella was enumerated as having married at age 18, and was widowed. Also listed were Grace's two sisters, Ollie, 25 and Eddison, 15.⁴ She left a will on 10 August 1965; Grace's Will was dated 10 August 1965, a resident of 228 West Front Street, Statesville, North Carolina. Her daughter, Virginia, was Executrix. Others mentioned were her daughter, Marjorie Elizabeth Waugh Ceruti, and her grandchildren, David Alvin, Randolph Stephen and Cheryl Esther. The Will was admitted to Probate 13 August 1979.³
