Edward Carter was born circa 1673 at Nanticoke, Isle of Wight County, Virginia. He was the son of Thomas Carter. Edward Carter married Elizabeth Gray in 1698. He left a will on 23 March 1735/36 at New Hanover County, Virginia; He did not name his children, but left land on the east side of the Northeast Branch of Cape Fear River to his grandchildren: William, Edward, Solomon and Thomasin. Edward set his slave, Peter, free for sixty years.1
