     Matthew Whitfield married Priscilla Lawrence, daughter of John Lawrence and Mary Power;
Mathew and Priscilla Whitfield of Nansemond County, sold their interest in a patent made to the late Mr. John Lawrence for 530 acres to John Lawrence of Newport Parish in Isle of Wight County for 5,000 pound of tobacco on 9 Feb 1708. John bequeathed part of it to his daughter, Elizabeth, who bequeathed her share to her sister, Priscilla Whitfield.1,2 Matthew Whitfield was born circa 1656 at England. He died circa 1761 at Nansemond Co, Virginia.
     Matthew Whitfield received a grant in Nansemond in 1682 for the transportation of 13 people aboard his ship to settle there.3 Matthew and his wife, Priscilla, of Nansemond County, sold their interest in a patent made to the late Mr. John Lawrence for 530 acres to John Lawrence of Newport Parish in Isle of Wight County for 5,000 pound of tobacco. John bequeathed part of it to his daughter, Elizabeth, who bequeathed her share to her sister, Priscilla Whitfield.4
