Judith Elizabeth Tryon

     Judith Elizabeth Tryon was born on 20 April 1839 at Noyan, Missisquoi Co, Quebec.¹ She was the daughter of Daniel Tryon Jr. and Amy Almeda Wait. Judith Elizabeth Tryon was baptized on 29 January 1840 at St Armand Methodist Church, St Armand, Missisquoi Co, Quebec.¹ She married Gilbert Scott, son of John Scott and Mary Tallman, on 24 February 1857 at Alburgh, Grand Isle Co, Vermont.² Judith Elizabeth Tryon died on 26 September 1924 at Shelburne, Massachusetts, at age 85; Interestingly, the death record in Shelburne indicates she was a resident there, widow of Gilbert H. Scott, was 86-5-6, having died from cancer of the stomach. It stated her burial was to be in Beebe, Quebec. It appears that her death given in the Stanstead record was listed as in N. Derby was likely incorrect. Although, this writer has yet to determine why she was living in Shelburne.³ She has also be reported to have been died 26 September 1924 N. Derby, Orleans Co, Vermont.⁴ She was buried on 28 September 1924 at Marlington Cemetery, Stanstead, Stanstead Co, Quebec.^5,6
     On 12 Dec 1907, Judith, as widow of the late Gilbert Scott, gave power of attorney to her son, Erastus Leslie Scott, through notary Charles Metcalfe Thomas, District of St Francis.
     "July 1909 - Received five dollars from Mrs. Gilbert Scott for five lots in Marlow Cemetery, lots 1-2-3-4-5 in Range VI." - Notes from Marlington Cemetery.⁷ She and Warren Arthur Scott appeared on the census of 1921 at Graniteville, Stanstead, Stanstead Co, Quebec; Warren Arthur Scott, 61, widowed, and Judith Elizabeth Scott, his mother, 82, also widowed. They were both Methodist. Warren was a carpenter and earned $1500. The two were enumerated one family after his son Walter Gilbert Scott and family, and next to his brother Asa Alfred Scott and his wife Cora.⁸
