Roxana Hunter was born in November 1818 at Vermont.1 She was the daughter of James Hunter and Asenath Nokes. Roxana Hunter married John Young Covey, son of James Covey and Elizabeth (?); Corinne Lawson wrote in 1999 about a slip of paper she was shown by Alyce Tucker Ronzo, written by her mother Eunice (Covey) Tucker. She interprets as: "John Covey married Roxanna Hunter. She was the daughter of James Hunter who was married to Senith Noax..." This transcription is more fully covered under Asenath Nokes.2 Roxana Hunter died on 31 December 1901 at Ellenburg Depot, Clinton Co, New York, at age 83; " Mrs Roxanna Covey, aged 84 years, died Dec. 31st. She was a devout CHristian and a member of the Free Baptist Church and had been totally blind for nearly forty years. She leaves several sons and daughters, grandchildren, and great grandchildren".3 She was buried at Sheldon Cemetery, Ellenburg, Clinton Co, New York.4
She witnessed the baptism of John P. Alfred Covey on 7 February 1858 at Franklin Centre Methodist Church, Franklin Centre, Huntingdon Co, Quebec.5 In files compiled by Everett Hoebbel of Wauconda, IL in 1977, he wrote that Roxanna (Hunter) Covey was known as "Blind Grandma" and was a half sister to Barzilla Grimshaw.6
