Roberta Covey Champagne writes: "My Grandmother was 14 when she met and married my Grandfather who was 19 at the time of their meeting and marriage. They were married on October 15th. My Great Grandfather Hiram B. Covey was born in 1844 and died in 1938. His wife Corinthia E. Taylor was born in 1848 and died in 1925. This according to the grave stone. My GreatGrandfather along with my Grandfather, his son William H. Covey and my Grandmother, Annis Lamb-Covey along with my Father, Lester Lorenzo Covey built the house on Ridge Road, which at the time was known as, Stevens Road, in Nashua, NH. Prior to building the house on Ridge Road they lived in the area known as Crown Hill in Nashua until the big fire of 1930, at which time they bought 47 acres on Ridge Road and cleared the land and built the house and barn."
"When my "Grandparents were first married they lived in a boarding house in Nashua and paid $7.00 for room and board. My Grandfather worked for the laundry in town and he earned $7.50 a week, so after paying the board and room money they had 50 cents for the week to live on. After they moved out to Ridge Road my Grandfather walked 6 miles one way, as he continued to work for the laundry. My Grandmother took care of the chores and helped my Great Grandfather to clear the land until my Grandfather came home from work and he would pitch in helping to clear the land also. They raised dairy cattle and used horses to clear the land and remove the stumps as well as to log with. They raised chickens so they had fresh eggs and all their own vegtables so only staples and feed were needed from town.1' On 12 September 1918, William Henry Covey was living at 25 Benson Ave in Nashua, and was a laborer for Chas. W. Keith.
