Stanley Fenwick Wood
     Stanley Fenwick Wood was born on 22 April 1887 at Hampton Village, Kings Co, New Brunswick; His father, William Judson Wood, filed for late registration of his birth on 15 Jul 1940 at E. Saint John before Notary Public F.E. Jossely. William J. Wood stated he was a resident of Hampton and a carpenter at the time of Stanley's birth, the assisting physician being Dr. Smith.
The funeral home record for Melcher Wood also shows Stanley's place of birth as Hampton, NB.1,2 He was the son of William Judson Wood and Eveline Daley. Stanley Fenwick Wood married Ella May Nisbet, daughter of John Nisbet and Eleanor J. Darrah, on 16 April 1912 at Orient Heights, Suffolk Co, Massachusetts; It was the first marriage for both, with Stanley as a resident of Lynn, and Ella of Saint John, New Brunswick. Arthur Harriman, 37 Breed Street, Lynn, married them, and entered the record on 22 Apr 1912 at Boston.3 Stanley Fenwick Wood died on 13 September 1949 at Hudson, Middlesex Co, Massachusetts, at age 62;

     It is evident that Stanley and his young family made a trip to Massachusetts long before they moved there. Stanley, 30, Ella, 29, and Melcher 3 1/2 are listed in arriving at McAdam Junction, NB on 5 Mar 1917, from Massachusetts. The 1917 city directory for Salem, MA lists them as removed from Beverly. Perhaps they tried it, and then went back to NB briefly.5,6 He appeared on the census of 1921 at Edith Ave, East Saint John, Saint John Co, New Brunswick; Stanley F. Wood, 34, Ella, 33, and son Donald, 2.7 He lived in 1923 at Bellevue Avenue, East Saint John, Saint John Co, New Brunswick; Stanley was listed as a laborer in the city directory.8 He appeared on the census of 25 April 1930 at Hudson, Middlesex Co, Massachusetts; Stanley and Ella, both 42, along with Donald J. 11, Evelyn R. 7, Dorrie E., 4 11/12, and Stanley R., 3 4/12 were all living on Causeway Street. The record shows they emigrated to the United States in 1924 and Stanley was a machinist.9 He was naturalized on 24 May 1937 at Boston, Suffolk Co, Massachusetts; Petition #176123, Certificate # 4525340 states Stanley Fenwick Wood was aged 50 yrs, of medium complexion, with blue eyes, grey hair, was 5' 4 " tall, 178 pounds, and then a resident of 20 Causeway Street, Hudson, Massachusetts. The only distinguishing mark was a scar on the back of his right hand. In the possession of this writer (PWW.)10 He and Ella May Nisbet appeared on the census of 9 April 1940 at 92 Manning Street, Hudson, Middlesex Co, Massachusetts; Stanley F. Wood, 52, Ella M., 52, Donald J., 21, Evelyn R., 16; all born Canada; Doris E., 14 and Raymond S., 13, both born Massachusetts. Stanley had completed 4 yrs of high school; Ella 8th grade; Donald, 4yrs high school; Evelyn had completed 2 yrs high; Doris, 1; and Raymond had completed 6th grade by that time. Stanley and Donald were both machinists.11 On 1942, Stanley gives his place of birth as Saint John on his registration for the draft. He and Ella were residing 92 Manning Street, and he was age 55. His employer was Lapointe Machine Tool Co, on Tower Street in Hudson. His phone number was listed as Hudson 751-M.12
     Although this writer, his granddaughter, never knew him, I was well acquainted with his beloved pet, Deedee, a spaniel, and of whom he was very proud. Supposedly the offspring of a Canadian champion, she was his pride and joy. Deedee was older when I was to meet up with her, but I loved that dog. She would let me let me sit on her and ride her when I was young, just loved to be with me. I always thought that I knew him through Deedee.13
