William Seth Daley

     William Seth Daley was born on 4 November 1836 at Portland, Saint John Co, New Brunswick. He was the son of David Daley and Sarah Stanley. William Seth Daley married Margaret Russell, daughter of John Russell and Ruth Heirsy?, on 26 February 1859 at Saint John, Saint John Co, New Brunswick. William Seth Daley died on 7 June 1929 at Los Angeles, Los Angeles Co, California, at age 92.¹ He was buried on 10 June 1929 at IOOF Cemetery, Los Angeles, Los Angeles Co, California.
     The 1865-1866 Saint John directory list William as a laborer, residing at "Main n Wentworth". In 1871, he was residing at 178 Prince William Street.
William Seth Daley was living in Dufferin Ward, Division 2, during the 1891 census of Saint John. He was listed as Calvinist Baptist and a stevedore by occupation. His son Frederick was also a stevedore, and son Edmund a Baptist Minister. At that time, along with his wife Margaret, Frederick, Edmund, Walter and Emma were listed of his household.
The 1901 census shows William Seth Daley as still living in Dufferin #2, Saint John [54-81]. At that time he was residing with his wife Margaret and Walter Daley, then aged 19 and a drug clerk. He appeared on the census of 1881 at Saint John, Saint John Co, New Brunswick; William S. Daley, 42, Margaret, 40, David, 20, Ernest, 15, Thomas, 10, Emily, 8, Stanley, 5, and Walter, 1. They were Baptist and listed as of Irish origin, but all born in New Brunswick.² He appeared on the census of 20 April 1891 at Saint John, Saint John Co, New Brunswick; William S. Daley, 53, Margaret, 52, Fred, 30, Edmund E., 27, Walter, 11, and Emma L., 18. William and Fred were stevedores and Edmund was a Baptist minister.³ He appeared on the census of 16 January 1920 in the household of Walter Seth Daley at Los Angeles, Los Angeles Co, California; Walter S Daley, 38, Loretta, 35, Stanley E., 15, Emily L., 13, William S., 83, his father, and George Maxwell, 22, his brother in law.⁴
