Anna of Kiev was born circa 1030 at Kiev, Ukraine. She was the daughter of Yaroslav I and Inguigarde of Sweden.2 Anna of Kiev married Henry I of France, son of Robert II of France and Constance of Arles, on 19 May 1051 at Reims, France.2,3 Anna of Kiev died in 1075 at Villiers Abbey, La-Ferte-Alais, Essonne, France.2
While serving as regent, there was some opposition as her mastery of French ws less than fluent, but she was a literate woman. One of the earliest samples of Cyrillic script is her autograph.3
