Melissa was married after the census in 1870 and prior to 1873. She was the mother of 9 children prior to her death in 1898 at age 43.
Burial:
(Originally buried in small Barnhill Family cemetery on private land located behind the Merle McKoy place. Also referred to as the old Dick Lewis place.) The woods had grown up around the graves. The stones had fallen over. The stones were moved to the Woodcock Cemetery (I assume for safe keeping and to at least preserve a record of their burials).
Melissa married Hanson Melvin Woodcock, son of John Bizzell Woodcock and Mary Jane Moore, on 28 May 1872 in New Hanover County, NC. (Hanson Melvin Woodcock was born on 10 Jul 1841 in New Hanover County, NC, died on 25 Dec 1913 in Pender County, NC and was buried in Dec 1913 in Woodcock Cem., Atkinson, Pender County, NC.)
