Curt Rowe "Are you sure Phillip was born in Delaware in 1650. According
to the good
ol' Encyclopedia Britannica, the first permanent settlement (i.e. one not wiped
out by the Indians) in the area was at was is now Wilmington in 1638 by the Swedish
(never new they had an American colony). The Dutch, Swedes,and Finns created
the next settlement in 1642. It was not until 1663 that the whole of Delaware
came under English control. It also mentions that Peter Stuyvesant, governor
of New Netherland built Ft. Casimir in 1651, near
what is now New Castle. A lot of Quakers emigrated to the Netherlands to escape
religious persecution, so it's possible that Phillip's family may have come over
with them. If you decide he was born in England, you might check into Staffordshire:
a several England families that came to Pennsylvania and Maryland were from there.
Curt Rowe : Elizabeth England wife of Philip England died 3-16-1708 and was
bur at Phila
17th of same Phillip England died 7-9-and bur at our burying place at Duck Creek
Hannah Warwick grand dau to Phillip England died 12-15-1708/9 at house of Thomas
Swan att Duck Creek in Newcastle Co, bur at meeting bur ground Philip England
son of Joseph and Rebekah England died 10-24-1709, bur at our burying place at
Duck Creek
Born all at Duck Creek in Newcastle County upon Delaware, children of Joseph
and Rebekah England: Isaac England b 9-7-1690; Philip England b 8-11-1692;Elizabeth
England b 9-11-1694; Joseph England b 2-2-1697; Martha England b 2-18-1699; Bathsheba
England b 2-18-1702; Abraham England b 5-22-1704;William Engalnd b 6(?)-8-1706;
died 14th of same month; Ebeezer England b 9-1-1707; Rebeca England b 8-7-1710;
Philip England b 2(?)-11-1713 It seems that the two Phillips in the second citation
would be too young to
be your Phillip, but at least you can rule out this family line if that is the
case. I've come across several England families in Maryland and Delaware. At
least one of them came from Pennsylvania.
