AE". I don't know just when James Wells moved to North Carolina; the first record I have found for him is his entry onto a tract of land in Surry Co., NC on 5 Apr 1787. This portion of Surry Co., NC is in present-day Yadkin Co., NC and was located quite near the border with that portion of Rowan Co., NC that later became Davie Co., NC.
SCCJ " James Wells was the son of James Wells jr and brother of Thomas Wells and
Numan Wells.

He was married to Mary PRICE ? in 1746 in Pennsylvania. (153) Hertage of Rowan Co. "James Wells b ca 1728 m Mary Price in 1746 "I have no proof of this, but through association, residency and time, and Pennsylvania Archives I have put together that James Wells and Mary Price were married Feb 14 1746 They both came from Maryland Eastern Shore which is only a few miles from Pennsylvania"
AE "Some descendants have identified the wife of the older James Wells (the one who died in Surry Co., NC in 1810) as a Mary Price and have cited a marriage of a James Wells and a Mary Price in Philadelphia Co., PA on 14 Feb 1846. These descendants express the belief that this Mary Price was the wife, Mary, to whom James Wells referred in his 1810 Surry County will. I have never found any documented support for this belief although I have seen it reported in several secondary sources.
Heritage " James born c 1750 probably either in Connecticut or Maryland was probably son of James & Mary (Price) Wells originally from Delaware and later Pennsylvania, may have been one of his parents 10 children. as there had been a Will probated in Surry County,N.C. in January 1810 for James Wells which named as heir ;his wife,Mary, his sons James, Thomas, Newman (spelled Numan) who married 18 Feb 1784 Rebecca Edwards, John, who probably married twice, first 5 Jan 1801 Mary Littie (spelled as Lyttie) and second 14 Oct 1815 Frances Gergory (spelled as Grigory), and his daughters Elizabeth Reese (spelled as Riece), Rachel, wife of Thomas Hutchins , Lucetia Witty, Susannah Rash, Marin Wells & Mary, wife of Samuel Beck>

Don Harp " Marion Wells born aft 1798 First name believed to be Rachel "Marion" Wells ???
child+72 x. Mary WELLS/WELLES.

He was married to Marey GRAHAM on 15 Apr 1809 in Rowan (Iredell) Co., NC. (198)(197) (199) It is (A.E.) belief that the wife, Mary, identified in the 25 January 1810 will of James Wells was the Marey Graham who had married a James Wells in Rowan Co.,NC.on 15 Apr 1809, less than a year before execution of James's will of 1810. In Rowan Co will records is an abstract will of James Graham, planter whose will dated 25 Apr 1779 was probated in Rowan County in 1789 The will identified his wife as MARY and indicated that their dwelling houses was adjacent to George WellsI
The bondsmen for the marriage of James Wells and Marey Graham were James Wells
(prob his son) and Joseph Clifford who married Susannah Wells (granddaughter of James Wells) in Rowan Co. on 15 Apr 1809, the same day as the marriage of James Wells and Marey Graham.
Willl NC " for James Wells which named as heirs his wife, Mary,"
AE " I have found a record of a Rowan Co., NC marriage bond dated 15 April 1809 (less than a year before the execution of James Well's will) for the marriage of James Wells and Marey Graham. I think it is probable that this marriage was for the James Wells who died>in Surry Co., NC in 1810. One further reason for this belief is that one of the bondsmen for the marriage bond was Joseph Clifford, husband of James Wells' granddaughter, Susannah Wells. It is also noteworthy that the date of the marriage of James Wells and Marey Graham was the same date as the marriage of Joseph Clifford and Susannah Wells.
