(Corse) Bowers [ProbKT A11:31,WillsKT L:12-13 Bowers] was born 15 May 1788 in Lt.Cr.Hd..[BibWellsB], He died abt 22 Sept 1847 [CecilDem1849], John moved to Elkton Md.aft 1812 with his father and resided in the "Black Rock Property" on Main St., Elkton next to the present location of the Cecil Co. Library [WellsHist:15]
John Wells was a man of activity and prominence in Elkton, and held the office of sheriff of the county, afterwards engaging in the hotel business in the brick building on West Main street now occupied by Mrs. George R.(Mary Ash) Howard, whose daughter Mary Ann Howard married John's grandson Benjamin Morrison Wells Jr., and also in what was known as the "Back Rock" property on East Main street now owned and occupied by Mr. John W. He was Dep't. Sheriff and Constable of Cecil Co Md [DeedsCecilJS 11:184 & JS 15:313] He also sold land his father left to his half sisters (Sussana Ann, and Lydia) [DeedsCecilJS 18:253]
