He was baptized on 16 Jun 1848 in Christ Episcopal Church Reading, Berks Co. PA..⁽³⁰⁹⁾ Church Reading " June 16th 1848 Trinity Sunday I baptised Aryhur Allston, born December 28tth AD.1847 Parents William A and Lydia Wells who were sponsors. R.U.Morgan,Rector He served in the military in 1862/63 in Pennsylvania.⁽²³³⁾⁽³⁶⁸⁾⁽³⁷⁰⁾ When the Civil War broke out , Mr. Eppihimer ( of Klein Eppihimer stores in Reading) paid Arthur A. $100 to take his sons place.He handed the money to his mother, at 14 or 15. He was so young that the General left him sleep in his tent to protect him from the other soldiers. He was with them from 11/04/1862- 08/11/1863.
GAR Arthur Allston Wells , Musician Company. C, 167th Regt. P.DV.I. served from 11/04/1862 to 08/11/1863 in the army of the James, engaged in the fight at Deserted Farm and in repelling the operations against the line south of that river; later in pursuit of Lee's army after Gettysburg.
