The RaceOn Sunday, June 9, seven teams representing the classes of 1997, 1992, 1982, 1977, 1972, 1962, and 1952 returned to the Charles in an effort to claim the Reunion Row Bowl.The turnout for competitors and spectators was strong despite a chilly start to the day. The ChallengeThe Row consisted of three heats, two qualifying heats and a final heat, using eight-man shells. All heats started at the near side of the Harvard Bridge and ended at the far side of the boat house pier. All boats competed with a handicap of 1.5 seconds for every five years out. Captains1997 Kathleen Seaton Defending the TitleEarly Sunday morning, an enthusiastic crowd gathered for the annual Reunion Row competition on the Charles. Classmates and members of the MIT community arrived at the boathouse as early as an hour before the 8 a.m. contest to see if the Class of '92 could defend its title from five years ago. Seven boats-representing the reunion classes of 1952, 1962, 1972, 1977, 1982, 1992 and 1997-lined up for the sprint from the Harvard Bridge to the boathouse. And once again the Class of '92 proved its dominance, winning in one minute, 12.5 seconds. The Class of 1997 finished second in 1:16.
