The ChallengeThe Row consisted of three heats, using eight-man shells. All heats began at the near side of the Harvard Bridge and ended at the far side of the boat house pier. Each boat competed with a handicap of 1.5 seconds for every five years out. In the end, it was the Class of 1969 which finshed first. Heat 1 (Quicktime video - 5.3mb)
Pictured are the winning crew, Class of 1969: Kneeling, Cox: Willie Vicens '70; Standing, Left to Right, Stroke to Bow: Bruce N Anderson, Bruce Parker, Frank Guillot, Jim Black, David Lee, Rodger Doxsey, Jeff Grotte, Mike Neschleba. Following the races, a was dedicated to William H. McTigue '54. Bill passed away in January of 2004. He was captain of the crew in 1954 that won the Eastern Sprints Rowing Championships and the Thames Challenge Cup at the Henley Royal Regatta. Bill worked at MIT as the director of the Educational Council, and ultimately went into business very successfully. Bill's wife Kay and his family were also in attendance for the dedication.
