Threatening skies and scattered showers failed to dampen the spirits of the eight boats of alumni/ae racing in this year’s Reunion Row on Sunday June 6.

The First Heat

The first heat featured the classes of 1960, 1965, 1975/85, 1980

The two-time defending champion Class of ’65 crew started the day off with a bang in the first heat, rowing a madcap 37-strokes-per-minute pace, and winning by four lengths over the Class of ’60, with the Class of ’80 and a combined boat from the class of ’75 and ’85 finishing third and fourth:

The Second Heat

The second heat featured the classes of 1970, 1985, 1990/95, and 2000/05

In the second heat, with a steady rain reminding the crews of their undergraduate days, the Class of ’85 lightweights rowed to an impressive 1 ½ length win over a combined crew from the classes of 2000 and 2005. Third place went to a combined crew from the classes of ’90 and ’95, and the Class of ’70 took fourth.

The 1985 and 2000/05 shells qualified for the final.

The Final

The expected showdown between the classes of ’65 and ’85 was somewhat anti-climactic, as the ’65 boat caught a full crab in the first ten strokes, and the smooth-stroking ’85 lightweights rowed to a convincing three-length victory. In a tight race for second place, Class of’65 nosed out Class of ’60 and the combined 2000/2005 crew.

Raw Time             Age handicap      Adjusted Time
 Class of 1985                 0.59.4                         6.0                 0:53.4

All times are adjusted for age and beauty

After the final race, reunion rowers returned to the McCurdy Lounge, for ex-coach Stu Schmill’s announcement of the results.
