Welcome to Wheelwright Online
The home for Wheelwright family history

This site documents the Wheelwright family of Birmingham, UK, covering the descendants of Thomas Wheelwright who was born in the city around 1750. Over the subsequent 250 years, the family has grown to include branches in London, Yorkshire, the United States, Australia and New Zealand.

The Wheelwrights are true 'Brummies', living and working in the town long before the influxes brought by the Industrial Revolution. The family is believed to have originated in the Bridgnorth area on the Shropshire/ Worcestershire border, although this has not been proved up to now.

Families associated with the Wheelwrights are also covered, principally:

  • The Taylor/Packwood/Connard families of Kidderminster & Bromsgrove
  • The Poulson Family of Nailsworth, Gloucestershire
  • The Da Costa Family of Barbados

The information presented here has been compiled by Michael Sharpe of Bromsgrove, UK over an extensive period. As well as historical archives, it draws on contributions from family members in the West Midlands and around the world. In the interests of privacy, living descendants are not included. The site is a work-in-progress and I am always interested to receive comments, corrections or additional information.

While most of the data are from published sources, a lot of work has gone into the presentation. So please dont copy the data simply to reproduce elsewhere. You are welcome to use parts of the information in your own research provided you give this site as the source. Thanks.
