March 30, 2002 WHISENHUNT~WHISENANT~WHISNANT

Hello To All,

This is the third Whis.. Family newsletter and a lot has changed since the last one as I am sure a lot of us have been changed by the events of Sept 11 2001.

The end of August my father, Barney Whisenhunt, under went a valve replacement and triple by pass. For a long while we were unsure of things with him. Thanks to all your support and prayers he is doing very well now. He was really uplifted by all of the messages left for him on the website.

A few short days later, on Sept 8th, our youngest son, Jeff was married to long time sweetheart, Janet Roth.

Al and Karen Austin's daughter, Jennifer was married in June of 2001 and they are expecting a new grandchild about June 18th of this year, Congratulations to Al and Karen. Al and Karen also told me about a large family reunion being planned for the descendants of: Mary Elizabeth Ramsey Young. Her daughter, Almedia married Plesant Whisenhunt.

Jonne Rosenau reports that since she has joined the family website she has met several new cousins. She has made contact with her second cousin, Barbara Conner and Helene Beardon.
Last May, Jonne, Evelyn Long and I met while at Third Sunday in Montgomery Co. Arkansas. I also met Lois Evans while visiting there. Jonne also has had a wonderful experience hosting a German exchange student this past year.

Success Stories:
Jonne Rosenau was able to make a connection to Sondra Rader. Both share the same gggrandparenets, Owen and Margaret Wrigth Dillard.

It looks like Lavern Nordine made a connection with Regina Pfaff when Regina posted a pic of Frank Grover Whisenhunt who was a brother to her grandfather, William Henry Whisenhunt.

This was sent in by Susan Conley
Hello everybody,
I am so excited as several years by my mother and sister of researching and finding nothing but dead ends, I managed to truely stumble across, an article (which only had the last name) of my mother's grandmother's side. It lead me to look in a whole new town, bordering the state they "lived" in. Well I found them and all of the siblings of GG grandmother. She had abandoned her family when they disapproved of her marriage, so she rarely mentioned anyone, it has made it a difficult track without names. I am researching my side of the family as we are having our first ever reuion next summer. When that is over I can concentrate on my husband's side again.(This site). But I wanted to let everyone know what a great job you are doing on this site and how well it is keep up. You are always sharing such good information and links. I wish I was contributing a bit more. Keep up the good work.
Susan Conley

Just before Christmas Linda Jantz made contact with a new cousin Francee Taylor. Francee is great granddaughter of Etter Rose Richey.
Regina Pfaff was able to make contact with Denise Whisenhunt. They are both from the line of Frank Gover and Polly Woodrum Whisenhunt.

Below is a letter from Ben and Viki Williams:

My husband contacted your site some time ago. We were looking for our connection at that time. We had the names Boggus Whisenhunt, Florrie, and Annie Grooms to work with. Thanks to a wonderful lady named Evelyn Moyers we have finally made our connection. My husband's great- great-grandfather was Jiles Boggas Whisenhunt, his great-great-grandmother was Julia Howell ( Jiles' first wife). His Great- Grandmother was Flora A.M.Whisenhunt. She married a man named Benjamin Grooms. He died, and then she married a man named John Ashford ( Evelyn's ancestor). Flora and Benjamin Grooms had two daughters, Annie and Rosie. Annie was my husband's grandmother. She died as a result of childbirth in 1916. Sam Williams remarried and from there Annie and her family just fadded away until we couldn't seem to find her family at all. Evelyn had all this documented in the family Bible, and in marriage documents and a census. Anyway, we can now say we have found our connection.

Thanks for all your help,

Ben and Vicki Williams

Patsy Gray and Bobbie Flowers may have made a connection also. It appears that Barbary Nancy Elizabeth Duggan, mother of Ira Stroud Whisenhunt was Bobbies great Aunt. Al Austin mentioned to me a while back he had some more info on Duggans. Maybe he has the key.

Gladys Diffee was able to help Doug Whisenhunt with some census material for Gilmer Co. Ga. providing him with a parent and some siblings for his Joseph H. Whisenant. Gladys has provided a lot of info for the website lately. Thank you Gladys

Richard Hankins who is connected to descendants of Henry Amos and Elizabeth Hankins Whisenhunt, my 3rd great grandparents, recently sent me info that Opal, Richards wife may be connected to my line thru Opal's Tackett line. I haven't had time to look in to it as of yet. Am sure there are many more connections being made but this is all I knew about. If you make any new connections and want them posted, please send them to me.

Ancestry.com has come out with a new genealogy program you can download from their site. What I like about the program is you can import your family file into it and then go to a certain person in your file and click on the icon for the web and the program will search Ancestry.com for matches. The program will also merge that info in you file if you want. The only draw back I see at this time is that when you want to export your family file, the program will only export in a format that can be used by an Ancestry program.

While I was going thru the website looking for news for this newsletter, I noticed a lot of good genealogy research sites posted on the Whis.. Family website. I know there is a lot of information on the site but it might benefit us to go back and look at some of the sites.

This is a great site for searching message boards courtesy of Roberta Agor: Message Searcher

If you have not done so, please go into the address book section and update you e-mail addresses and info. It would be great if all of us could put our pictures in the address book. If you need help let one of us know.

Don't wait to send in your news. Send it in as you get it and I will keep it for the next time.

Until the next time.

We are always open to new suggestions on how to improve the site and meet out members needs,
Please let us know.

Thank you all for helping make this Family Website such a success and please send us your NEWS for our upcoming Newsletters.
