Notes for Almon J. Whiting and Lucy Smith:
The 1880 Census reports that "Almond" Whiting was living in the home of Mary F. Smith, age 73. Listed in her household that year are: Lucy A. Smith (age 35), Lillian Smith (age 15), and Almon Whiting. Almon's occupation was farm laborer and he may have worked on the Smith farm (as no husband is listed for Mary) in return for room and board. Tamworth records indicate that Almon Whiting was married to Lucy Smith. One theory about the relations of theses household members is that Lillian Smith is Lucy's daughter from a previous marriage to Mary's son, he  died or they were divorced, and they moved in with Lucy's mother-in-law, Mary F. Smith.

Notes for Almon J. Whiting and Annie E. Hobson:
The 1900 Census reports Almon Whiting living in Tamworth with his son Clifford, who was born in 1883. He was divorced in May of that year. The divorce record recorded with the NH Vital Records office reports that Almon J. and Annie E. Whiting were divorced because of desertion and refusal to cohabit. Annie E. is listed as the libelant in that suit. At the time of the census, though, Almon and Annie's son Cliiford was living with Almon, not Annie. This divorce record also states that their marriage took place 7 May 1885 in Freedom and that they were living in Laconia at the time of the divorce.

Notes for Elizabeth Reid Palmer:
Notes on Elizabeth Reid Whiting, collected by Mary Gotshall of Sandwich, NH from the Sandwich Historical Society: "Elizabeth Reid Whiting passed away on February 4, 1953. She was the widow of Almon Whiting of South Tamworth, where she had made her home until recent years when she came to live with her daughter, Mrs. Maurice Pierce (Alice Whiting). The daughter of Ambrose and Caroline Moulton Palmer, she was born in East Sandwich, July 12, 1869. Besides her daughter, she leaves a son, Robert Whiting, of Eliot, Maine, and three grandchildren."
