Notes for Levi
F. Whiting:
Levi Whiting served in the Civil War. He enlisted with the 12th Regiment New Hampshire Volunteer Infantry on 9 Aug 1862 and was mustered in on 9 Sep 1862 as a Private. He was 33 and residing in Tamworth at the time. On 14 Jan 1864, he was discharged with a disability in Brattleboro, Vermont. Shortly thereafter, he resided in Gilford, NH, where he re-enlisted on 3 Sep 1864 for one year's service with the 1st Regiment New Hampshire Volunteer Heavy Artillery. He was mustered in on 6 Sep 1864 as a Private. He was discharged 30 Jan 1865 with a disability.
Notes for Maude E. Whiting:
On the 1900 census, Maude is listed as Maude L. Emery, but is
enumerated with her parents, Levi and Mary E. Whiting. Tamworth
vital records received from the Conway Public Library indicate that
a daughter named Lizzie married J. Wesley Emery when she was 15 and he was 21. The middle initial "L" in the 1900 census could
be Lizzie. As Lizzie is short for Elizabeth, it is probable that
Maude/Lizzie's name is Maude Elizabeth Whiting (a.k.a. Maude E.,
Maude L., or Lizzie).
