Williscroft Creek is situated on the Alaska Highway 1066.3 miles (1716Km) from Dawson Creek in the the Kluane National Park and Reserve in the Yukon Territory, Canada. Map
Williscroft peak is the highpoint of the low range located on the southwest side of Kluane Lake. It sits at the head of Williscroft canyon.
The Creek was named after Walter G Williscroft a ‘million miler’ on the Alaska highway. Walter, a Canadian, was first employed on the Alaska Highway in August 1943 as a road foreman with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. Between 1945 and 1950 he was Area Superintendent of the highway section headquartered at Destruction Bay on Kluane Lake. He was in charge of maintenance from Whitehorse to the Alaska boarder and of the Haines Road. (Crooked Road: The Story of the Alaska Highway, Remley, David A., University of Alaska Press, 2008, p66)
Walter was the GGGrandson of William Williscraft who immigrated to Ontario, Canada in 1828 from Ireland. He was born in Gladstone, Manitoba, Canada in 1906 and died in Chilliwack, BC, Canada in 1983.
