Section A1 covers the periods from 1864 to 1950.
These are from copy books of wills kept in the Land Office in SSM.
To find a will you need the book, page and instrument #s
and they can be copied at the Land office. Contact info. is above.
These wills can be looked at, but just at the Land Records Office.


Section B1 covers the periods from 1950 to 1955.
These are from copies of each will and are
kept separately filed in drawer # 33.
Information includes will dates and death dates
where it was possible to find them listed.
These Land Records use instrument #'s rather than
will #'s. When trying to acquire these one must refer to
the instrument #. Contact info. is above.
These wills can be looked at, but just at the Land Records Office.


Misc. Records cover the period of 1880 to 1950.
Powers of Attorney, Liens and other Instruments. Many are for
individuals, and may provide family information.
Also available only at the Land Records Office.

These indexes cover the period from 1880 to 1930.
The Wills themselves have been copied onto film, and the
LDS library Film Number for the film containing each
copied Will is noted at the beginning of each line,
and is one of #'s 1479854 - 1479857.

The actual wills have been filmed on the LDS Microfilm #s-
1432903 - 1432909, 1432911 - 1432923,
1432945 - 14432950 & 1433184 - 1433188.
Wills before 1932 are available on Ontario Archives films
MS 887, Reel 1 to 55, 57.

All of these Wills cover the Old Algoma District, which at one time extended from Thunder Bay District to Manitoulin Island. Some of the Wills have been pulled from the Land Records in Sault Ste. Marie as each of the areas acquired their own Land Record Office, and sent Wills to it. The residence of the people at the time of death are listed. This varies because the Wills were made when they lived in the area, but their residences at the time of their death are all over the continent.

Spellings could be suspect as many 'foreign' names were spelled phonetically. Check all possible variations in spelling. To find your surnames of interest you can start at the beginning with Page 1 and proceed using the Next and Previous links at the bottom of each page, or you can go directly to the closest pages using the links on the following page. Each database is a separate unit so be sure to check all three.
